Business Development Assistant 


FLSA: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Director of Business Development

What You Will Accomplish

In this role you will support the Business Development team and assist with all aspects of the sports sales solicitation process. You will assist in relationship development initiatives with current and potential event clients, along with the organization’s community and business partners. You will work in a customer relationship database (CRM) to manage data used in the business development process.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Tracking all business development activities in the CRM (Simpleview) by proofing, distributing and monitoring leads, verification and lost business
  • Serve as primary contact for qualifying all incoming new event opportunities
  • Communicating (verbal and through email) with hotel partners on lead details
  • Prepare monthly Board of Directors reports, sales activities and projection reports using SimpleView database
  • Assist the Business Development team in achieving room night and lead goals
  • Provide monthly hotel meeting reports to internal sales team members
  • Coordinate all aspects of the bid process to include scheduling internal meetings, collaborating with marketing team to create customized bid books, compiling all hotel and facility responses into a customized proposal
  • Preparing, coordinate and communicating all aspect of client site inspections including the agenda, welcome gifts, hotel reservations and transportation
  • Coordinate internal and external client meetings, including agenda preparation, room set up, information packets and notes
  • Assist with pre and post activities related to sales missions and industry events
  • Coordinate travel and entertainment details with clients by managing invite list, catering orders and ticket distribution
  • Use of the Greater Columbus Convention Center (GCCC) database, Ungerboeck
  • Provide general office assistance to back up or assist other team members, as needed.

About You
The ideal candidate will need strong time management and organization skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks with great attention to detail, prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment. A professional demeanor is important with strong written and verbal communication skills - communication occurs via email, phone and in person. Must be comfortable and self-confident to initiate contact and interact with clients, board members hotel personnel, facility managers, vendors and internal team members. You need to have a passion for Columbus and knowledgeable about its attractions, events and activities. Don’t worry we will help provide you that information as well through our CTA training.

The ability to work some evenings and weekends is required to attend GCSC functions.

Specific qualifications required include:

  • 2-year Associates or 4-year Bachelor's Degree in business or communication or equivalent knowledge gained through on the job experience and training
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience using social media outlets and online applications
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Highly organized, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and effective time management skills

Additional knowledge, skills or experience that would be helpful in this role:

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in marketing management; sports administration and/or the hospitality industry experience
  • Experience using a Customer Relations Management (CRM) system is a plus
