This is your opportunity to join the Woodland Park Zoo as an Electrician with the Facilities Team! There is one full-time, regular, benefitted position open at this time. SUMMARY This position diagnoses, installs, repairs, and/or maintains electrical equipment, electrical systems, and electrical or electronic control systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Performs electrical support, maintenance, and repair of exhibits, equipment and facilities.
- Carries out new electrical work requests.
- Troubleshoots DC carts.
- Installs temporary power systems for events.
- Checks contracted electrical work for proper installation.
- Monitors electrical efficiency throughout the zoo as part of the Green Team.
- Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions in electrical equipment or control systems such as boilers, pumps, motors, generators, air compressors, fire alarms, dryers, refrigerators, overhead doors, or other electrical devices.
- Installs lighting fixtures, power outlets, control devices, heaters, thermostats, computer cables or other similar devices.
- Runs conduit and pulls wire for new or existing electrical installations.
- Modifies existing electrical installations.
- Conducts preventative maintenance on electrical and electronic equipment.
- Purchases and orders electrical supplies and parts from vendors.
- Reviews blueprints, electrical schematics, project plans, and specifications of electrical equipment installations.
- Replaces fuses and changes lamps in florescent, mercury vapor, and incandescent lighting fixtures.
- Installs temporary power systems for special events.
- May troubleshoot systems, which include some electronics.
- Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Completion of an accepted four-year apprenticeship training program, and journey-level electrician status required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES - Valid Washington state driver’s license required.
- Valid commercial (nonresidential) Washington State maintenance license also required.
COMPUTER SKILLS Must have basic computer skills to access email and submit online timesheet.
