This is your opportunity to join the Woodland Park Zoo as an Electrician with the Facilities Team! There is one full-time, regular, benefitted position open at this time.

SUMMARY

This position diagnoses, installs, repairs, and/or maintains electrical equipment, electrical systems, and electrical or electronic control systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs electrical support, maintenance, and repair of exhibits, equipment and facilities.
  • Carries out new electrical work requests.
  • Troubleshoots DC carts.
  • Installs temporary power systems for events.
  • Checks contracted electrical work for proper installation.
  • Monitors electrical efficiency throughout the zoo as part of the Green Team.
  • Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions in electrical equipment or control systems such as boilers, pumps, motors, generators, air compressors, fire alarms, dryers, refrigerators, overhead doors, or other electrical devices.
  • Installs lighting fixtures, power outlets, control devices, heaters, thermostats, computer cables or other similar devices.
  • Runs conduit and pulls wire for new or existing electrical installations.
  • Modifies existing electrical installations.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance on electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Purchases and orders electrical supplies and parts from vendors.
  • Reviews blueprints, electrical schematics, project plans, and specifications of electrical equipment installations.
  • Replaces fuses and changes lamps in florescent, mercury vapor, and incandescent lighting fixtures.
  • Installs temporary power systems for special events.
  • May troubleshoot systems, which include some electronics.
  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Journey-level knowledge of electrical concepts, principles, methods and codes.
  • Full knowledge of the operational aspects of both electrical equipment and systems.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Completion of an accepted four-year apprenticeship training program, and journey-level electrician status required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES

  • Valid Washington state driver’s license required.
  • Valid commercial (nonresidential) Washington State maintenance license also required.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must have basic computer skills to access email and submit online timesheet.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places such as ladders and scaffolding; all outside weather conditions; and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
