Process Associate III 

Description

Summary/Objective:

As a member of the Production Services team, the Process Associate III works independently and collaboratively to solve manufacturing/process issues in production and provide ideas for continued improvement. Creates theoretical formulas for Pilots to solve issues for the new, as well as existing, formulas. Communicates with production personnel on a daily basis to identify key issues and find root causes. Gathers research on new and existing technologies and procedures and helps make recommendations for designing/redesigning production processes.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure the proper manufacture and handling of trial batches as per customers' request.
  • Generate and/or adjust Formula Quotes, mixing instructions and In Process Limits for products.
  • Responsible for assisting Management with specification of raw materials for, and the formulation of, Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements for capsules, tablets and powders.
  • Troubleshoot problems in production pertaining to formulation issues.
  • Assist in the generation and/or approval of planned and unplanned deviations for the manufacture of product.
  • Update and maintain formulas and label claims for customer products.
  • Assist customer in requests for information regarding scientific information and/or functionality issues of ingredients.
  • Review and approve customer product specifications and Master batch records.
  • Assists Purchasing in the specification and sourcing of raw materials.
  • Assist with formulation of new products or reformulation of existing products.
  • Support management of multiple Production Services initiatives at the same time.
  • Review Change Request documents, deviations or corrective actions prepared by Team.
  • Identify and manage product improvement and cost saving initiative projects by Production Services (e.g. dead stock, raw material consolidation, etc.).
  • Assist in advanced mathematical calculations as needed to solve formulation issues.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in pharmacy, chemistry, biology or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' formulation/process development experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in the formulation of solid dose products in the nutraceutical or pharmaceutical field.
  • Knowledge of raw materials used in the nutraceutical or pharmaceutical field.
  • Experience with food and natural products chemistry.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed instructions. Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong math skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Master's degree in pharmacy, chemistry, biology or related field.

Supervisory Responsibility:
None

Work Environment:
Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions in the plant. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. This position is very active and the employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl all day. Occasional lifting of light items required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Objects weighing 50 pounds or more must be accompanied by a second individual to avoid injury.
