Description

Position: Primary Reading-Intervention Teacher
Status: Full-Time

Primary Function:
This employee is responsible for organizing and implementing, for identified Lower Grade students, and instructional intervention program consistent with the primary Reading Intervention Program (PRI) and for meeting the duties of teaching as outlines in laws and policies.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

Planning

  • Designing the intervention program so that it is consistent with the Primary Reading Intervention program with Waldorf educational philosophy and of scientific based reading research (SBRR).

  • Continuing professional growth through participating in educational meetings and defined professional growth opportunities, reading professional literature, and exchanging ideas with others on staff

  • Participating in a network/support system in planning and developing the program.

  • Attending weekly faculty meetings

Programming

  • Administrating and interpreting specific diagnostic surveys of reading behavior

  • Using appropriate formal and informal assessment tools to plan instruction

  • Preparing daily one-to-one or small group reading lessons

  • Providing specialized instructional strategies to ensure reading progress as well as to meet the social and emotional needs of the pupils

  • Selecting and using materials appropriate for each child

  • Participating in conferences concerning pupils served

Public Relations

  • Cooperating with school personnel in coordinating PRI services within the school

  • Developing and conducting an in-service program to inform classroom teachers of the goals and objectives of the PRI program

  • Conferring with classroom teachers regarding any reading needs of the student

  • Making available to teachers instructional strategies that are appropriate for PRI students

  • Providing information to parents concerning PRI

Reporting

  • Maintaining daily records on each pupil

  • Furnishing the designated school staff with current PRI schedules

  • Completing progress reports on each student in the program

  • Supplying progress reports to school personnel and to parents

  • Providing follow-up for teachers of students released from the program

  • Accepting other responsibilities as directed by the principal or supervisor

Physical Job Requirements for all Linden Waldorf School Employees-must be able to:

  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, standing, or sitting

  • Move about to reach students and/or access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

  • Ascend/descend stairs and traverse campus

  • Position self as needed, including bending, crouching, kneeling, lifting, reaching

  • Lift up to 40 pounds on a regular basis

  • Frequently communicate with students, parents, colleagues, and leadership

  • Actively supervise students with focus, even when distractions are present

  • Work in various outdoor weather conditions for extended periods of time

Position Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Certification in reading, early childhood, or elementary education

  • At least two years of classroom teaching experience at the primary level or related experience

  • Commitment to program

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in reading

  • Lower Grades teaching experience

  • Experience in like position
