The Facilities Mechanic supports the Museum’s mission by assuring proper maintenance and safety of Museum vehicles, utility vehicles, train, and other equipment.
• High school diploma/GED• 10+ years work experience as a vehicular mechanic• Valid NC driver's license• Knowledge of standard materials, tools, equipment and skills applicable to general and specific automotive service and repair• Physically able to perform duties, to include lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs., walking, manual dexterity, pulling and pushing equipment as required
• Aptitude: Senior level mechanical skills, able to provide expertise in diagnosis and repairs.• Complexity: Works on assignments requiring significant judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.• Supervision: Works independently and prioritizes daily workload. Determines methods and procedures on new assignments. May provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel.• Interaction: Works and communicates well within the Facilities team, and interacts well with staff and guests. May provide specific task instruction and assistance for other team members• Experience/Education: Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience. High School degree or GED required. Trade school, 2 year technical degree or equivalent experience desired.
• Certification from the National Institute for Auto Service Excellence (ASE)• Welding experience and proficiency
