The Audience Research team, housed in the zoo's Learning and Innovation Department, is seeking to hire one part-time, limited duration Data Collector who will support the zoo's visitor research and evaluation projects. This position will primarily assist with data collection and data entry. The Data Collector will play a front-line role, inviting zoo visitors to participate in surveys, interviews and other forms of data gathering. You are an ideal candidate if you are a friendly, effective communicator who is comfortable approaching and engaging diverse audiences to participate in a variety of feedback opportunities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Approach and invite diverse groups of zoo visitors to participate in visitor research and evaluation activities.
- Implement data collection strategies with visitors, such as user-testing, surveys, observations and interviews.
- Perform data entry using MS Excel or SPSS software.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to adhere to designated research protocols to collect visitor data.
- Conversational proficiency in another language such as Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese or Amharic a plus.
- Interest in social sciences, evaluation, visitor research, psychology or other related field a plus.
- Proficient and experienced with Microsoft Office applications (particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Must be able to work with customized databases and technology.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Familiarity or experience collecting social science data such as surveys, interviews or observations is preferred.
- Previous experience in an informal learning setting or in evaluation is preferred, but not required.
- College level courses in social science, psychology, or evaluation a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position works a non-standard/flexible schedule, which may include weekends or early evening. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a typical office environment and/or outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
