POSITION SUMMARY: BASIC FUNCTION
The Director of Network Strategy is responsible for the fiber network acquisition and implementation strategy to group RagingWire's footprint across the Americas. This position is also responsible to maintain the relationships with strategic suppliers and partners. The Director of Network Strategy works closely with a cross-functional team to find optimal solutions to meet RagingWire's need to connect current and future data centers.
This position requires a unique blend of business and technology experience and works closely with external and internal teams to find creative, cost effective and often unique solutions to meet RagingWire's ongoing growth and expansion needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the Vice President of Strategy with project budgets, project coordination, scheduling and implementation of projects to support fiber optic provisioning and telecommunications partnerships for new and existing network products and services to new construction initiatives.
Perform cost studies, build estimates/analysis, and business cases for networking products and network enabled services.
Coordination and planning with Sales teams and Engineers regarding current, future and past opportunities.
Assist with the identification of cost saving opportunities in the areas of construction methods and supply chain.
Provide assistance to support peer Information Technology Network Planning staff and operational network issues.
Develop, plan, and compile network planning standards and guidelines for fiber and distributed network construction.
Assist Sales and Sales Engineering by identifying and screening dark fiber and other telecommunications opportunities.
Assis with vendor selection and coordinate contractors and subcontractors.
Support business development initiatives and endorse strategic partnerships.
Oversee design and engineering team members for construction related activities and act as technical leader and goal-setter.
Provide design expertise on proposals.
Responsible for key strategic and tactical decisions on all engineering and technical initiatives.
Act as a resource regarding telecom industry guidelines, including FCC/FAA regulations and structural consideration for new projects.
Define, evaluate, solve and present alternatives to complex engineering problems and in apply engineering and economic principles while conducting studies and surveys to analyze a network or network design into component parts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Regular, predictable attendance is essential for satisfactory performance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge in reading and writing fiber network schematics is required.
Familiarity with Google Earth and similar Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and fiber/telecommunication locator systems.
Knowledge in designing fiber optic telecommunications technologies.
Familiarity with practices/standards pertaining to the fiber construction, costing, lighting buildings, DWDM, Ethernet, SONET, and CLEC facilities.
Knowledge and understanding of a range of networking and voice software and hardware systems and related technologies.
Ability to generate information on fiber distance and types to input into a business case.
Must have a familiarity of fiber optic technology, vendors, and construction methods.
Able to be highly confidential.
Proficient with computers to include the utilization of Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
Able to work in a team environment.
Manages stress and/or fast-pace effectively.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
BA or BS or equivalent work and/or education experience usually obtained with 7-8 years of related experience
Minimum of 10 years of experience in a high tech company with responsibility of strategic planning and execution; preferably in a critical facility environment.
High school diploma or GED required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Primarily sitting with some walking, standing, and bending.
Able to hear and speak into a telephone.
Close visual work on a computer terminal.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.
Able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
Able to climb a ladder and work on a raised platform.
WORK CONDITIONS
Standard office; Data Center environment with varying temperatures and loud noises; extensive daily usage of workstation or computer.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Potential of 50% travel.
Must possess a current, valid state-issued driver's license.
