Description

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with ATC's staff and Senior Engineers and Managers to effectively manage and execute materials testing and geotechnical projects per scope and budget while ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Manage and perform field testing operations as directed by the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Manager and Senior Engineer.
  • Perform Senior Technician level inspections and testing with continued training and certification as needed and required.
  • Manage materials testing and inspection projects with the ability to manage multiple technicians.
  • Transports equipment, test specimens and/or documents to field personnel, laboratory, clients or other offices, and provides physical assistance in equipment set-up.
  • Assists other technicians or professional staff on tasks, and assists other departments as necessary.
  • Abides by ATC’s health and safety plans, programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, ATC employees, vendors, subcontractors, and other pertinent members of the project team which may include engineers, architects, owners, and developers.
  • Develop project objectives and coordinate technicians and schedules.
  • Manage and execute multiple construction materials testing projects.
  • Prepare and manage tasks for field staff as required. Participate in field testing, inspection, and reconnaissance activities. Compile data tables and figures. Prepare, compile, and review field reports.
  • Coordinate with engineers to relay field conditions for use in site and project design and construction.

Position Requirements

Basic qualifications:

  • BS degree in Civil or Construction Engineering preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in construction materials testing, with experience in geotechnical engineering preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while meeting project deadlines.
  • Ability to lead field staff and subcontractors.
  • Experience in writing and reviewing field reports.
  • Experience with mentoring and training field personnel.
  • Ability to develop and maintain long-lasting relationships with clients, and identify and capitalize on business development opportunities.
  • Experience with specialty testing methods such as CPT, cross-hole logging, geophysical testing desirable.
  • Experience and/or certification related to construction materials testing and structural special inspections (soil, concrete, steel, masonry, timber) a plus.
  • Physical strength, stamina and dexterity to lift and move 70 lbs, stoop, bend, and stand throughout the course of up to a 12-hour work day in varying weather conditions in varying terrain.
  • Must be willing and able to travel regionally intermittently.
  • Must be comfortable working in the field as field work is required.
  • Must be proficient at using Word, Excel, Adobe, and other widely-used software programs.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have strong reasoning and math skills.
  • Preferred membership in professional organizations in the civil/geotechnical field.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
