Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the Vice President of National Partnerships is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to attract financial resources to NeighborWorks America and the NeighborWorks network. This position is primarily responsible for cultivating relationships and securing new non-federal support each year, independently and in collaboration with the NeighborWorks programmatic staff, and maintaining and upgrading current funders.

The Vice President of National Partnerships plays an important role in meeting and exceeding the Division’s annual fundraising goals. The Vice President will direct the Manager, Stewardship and Philanthropic Culture to maintain strong relationships with existing funders and partners. This role is expected to maintain strong relationships with major corporate and foundation donors, acting as the relationship manager and working with the Manager, Stewardship to identify opportunities to deepen the relationships. In addition, the Vice President is expected to maintain strong working relationships with the NeighborWorks programmatic staff. Success is evaluated, in part, on the strength and effectiveness of these relationships.

The Vice President serves as key counsel on philanthropic initiatives that expand and diversify the overall portfolio of partners, identifying synergies between existing NeighborWorks America programs and potential partners.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement a comprehensive national development program for private sector partners of NeighborWorks America to meet or exceed annual fundraising goals.
  • Maintain a diverse portfolio of major corporate and foundation donors with giving capacity of at least 7-figures, acting as the relationship manager and collaborating with the Senior Director, Partnerships and Operations and managing the Manager, Stewardship to create and execute appropriate stewardship and engagement strategies that acknowledge and expand relationships.
  • Manages the creation and implementation of a comprehensive stewardship program for private sector partners of NeighborWorks America to meet or exceed annual fundraising goals. Manages and ensures that details of stewardship plans are communicated to all involved parties and that plans are documented, implemented, and recorded in fundraising management system.
  • Manage the proposal submission and grant renewal process for assigned donors, collaborating with colleagues across divisions to create successful proposals that strengthen and enhance the impact of NeighborWorks America and its network.
  • Serve as lead fundraising counsel for designated programs within NeighborWorks America, developing specific fundraising strategies for existing programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as an in-house expert and resource on best practices in the field of resource development and stewardship, including industry trends related to corporate social responsibility.
  • Advise and support NeighborWorks America executives in their relationships with major donors and partners.
  • Serve as liaison to the capital corporations to coordinate strategy on funding opportunities, in coordination with National Initiatives.
  • Manages all aspects of personnel management for direct report, including but not limited to: work plan development, performance evaluations, and time and attendance. Supervise assigned staff according to overall company policy, including: developing staff to maximize potential, monitoring and assisting staff with work progress, and monitoring performance to achieve goals and objectives.

Nature of Work Contacts:

  • Senior management levels within corporations, foundations, financial institutions, federal agencies, trade associations and national non-profit organizations for developing enduring partnerships.
  • Executives and staff within the Resource Development Division, NeighborWorks America and the NeighborWorks network to advise and collaborate on fund development opportunities and practices. Senior managers and functional peers in NeighborWorks America for coordinating and supporting resource development efforts.

Fiscal Responsibilities:

  • Some budgetary oversight for respective areas of responsibility.
 
Position Requirements

Required Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Education: Bachelor’s degree required and Master’s degree (highly preferred) in a relevant discipline from an accredited four year college or university.

(b) Experience: A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience involving demonstrated abilities in resource development, fundraising, and stewardship. Experience and knowledge of elated programmatic areas in community development and/or affordable housing preferred.

(c) Licenses, Certifications: None specified.
(d) Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven track record of direct involvement in developing and managing large, complex funding agreements in excess of six figures.
  • Demonstrated success in closing, growing and diversifying funder partnerships.
  • Strong ability to identify opportunities and develop strategies that create synergy between the organization’s mission and the donor’s needs.
  • Ability to learn and incorporate new programmatic information in funder pitches and proposals. Modify approaches to funders as needed.
  • Experience managing and developing staff as well as supervising consultants.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong track record of collaboration across all levels of the organization and the ability to seek and incorporate input from a variety of stakeholders.
  • Commitment to the mission of NeighborWorks America and its network.

(f) Technology: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with fundraising CRM software packages, i.e. Salesforce.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with a national organization that includes a network of independent or affiliated organizations or chapters.

Working Conditions:

(a) Travel: Up to forty-percent (40%). Occasional weekend or evening work may be required.
(b) Physical/Sensory Demands:

  • Fast-paced working environment; extensive computer usage.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to communicate and collaborate effectively within NeighborWorks America, the NeighborWorks network, and the for-profit sector.
