About the Organization Incorporated in 1985, Fountainhead Development, Inc., (FDI), specializes in property management and is the largest privately owned hotelier in Alaska. FDI owns and operates Sophie Station Suites, Wedgewood Resort and the Bear Lodge. Each of these properties offers guest accommodations, fine dining establishments and a variety of guest services. Our commercial properties include holdings in excess of 540,000 square feet of rental space, which we manage, lease and maintain. This diversified corporation is also involved in the construction industry with a year round operation developing commercial properties.


Fountainhead Development, Inc. owns and operates the Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum, a collection that features over 84 American made antique automobiles and showcases the interesting heritage of the automobile during Alaska's post-Gold Rush era. Several autos are the only models of their marques known to remain.


In addition, FDI has a Wildlife Sanctuary at Wedgewood, which is a peaceful, 75-acre reserve that is home to an impressive variety of interior Alaska's wildlife. The sanctuary, a model wetlands restoration project, offers nature trails and observation decks.

Description

Position Summary: Assist Group Manager with training, supervising, supporting and participating in the transport of luggage to and from hotel guest rooms.

Duties:

  • Set positive and professional example for other employees regarding appearance, enthusiasm, attendance, performance and conduct
  • Assist in training Luggage Handlers
  • Operate company vehicle
  • Transport guests and luggage
  • Transport Luggage Handlers in company provided vehicle around and in-between Fountainhead Hotel properties
  • Oversee and assist with receipt of luggage and mark for delivery to rooms
  • Oversee and assist with delivery of luggage to rooms in a timely manner
  • Maintain awareness of and work to ensure guest comfort and security
  • Work closely with the Group Representative staff
  • May assist with laundry and housekeeping duties as needed (to include washing and folding laundry, stripping linens from rooms, vacuuming, making beds, etc.)
  • Communicate with other hotel departments and shifts as need to meet guest's needs and maintain smooth operation of hotel functions
  • Observe health and safety precautions required to protect people, and hotel and guest property
  • All other duties as assigned
 
Position Requirements

Education, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License
  • Driving record sufficient to meet company insurance standards
  • Previous Luggage Handler experience preferred
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Previous customer service experience, particularly in hospitality/tourism, is a plus
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service, to include assessing needs, meeting quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, to include effectively conveying information with others, and giving full attention to what other people are saying and taking the time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Able to complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Able to lift up to 60 lbs. unassisted and 75 lbs. assisted
  • Able to perform with sufficient physical ability and mobility to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to perform physical activities that include use of legs, arms, fingers, walking, and standing for long periods of time, to include frequently walking and carrying weight up to 60 lbs. up and down stairs; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination, including use of computer keyboard; to travel to other locations; to verbally communicate to exchange information; to see and hear within a reasonable range for a hotel/resort environment with or without correction.

Wage $12.50 per hour  
Shift Various Shifts  
Hours Variable – depending on tour group arrival and departure times, to include early mornings, afternoons, late evenings, weekends and split shifts  
Uniform • Black slacks • Full, closed-toe and closed-heel shoes with slip resistant soles • Employer provided shirt
