Under the direction of the Program Director, the Program Consultant leads professional development and consults NTC client programs to effectively work toward program standards that result in effective assessments and supports for new and/or veteran teachers as well as demonstrably improved student outcomes. Leading professional development includes face-to-face and/or online sessions for coaches/mentors, principals, and/or district stakeholders. The Program Consultant also supports the development of co-presenters as well as contributes to the design, development, and refinement of NTC's products and services.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

The following is an overview of the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. The employee may perform other duties as required.

  • Advocate for and support client program leaders in implementing comprehensive induction and instructional coaching programs aligned with the NTC Theory of Action and Program and Practitioner Standards
  • Provide consultative support to clients that deepens and sustains high quality program implementation.
  • Lead and present professional development to new and/or veteran teacher coaches/mentors and school leaders
  • Provide in-field coaching and support to coaches and mentors based on NTC's Practice Standards
  • Coach and support development of NTC and/or client co-presenters
  • Develop instructional materials that support client's long and short-term goals
  • Collaborate with NTC staff to contextualize materials based on assessed client needs/ways of developing their professional personnel
  • Monitor client program's progress via ongoing formative assessment and support processes
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor regarding each client program's progress and strategic support in alignment with the contracted scope of work
  • Coordinate with impact team personnel and client to develop, monitor, and analyze data of implementation and impact
  • Contribute to the Bay Area's partnership-engagement and fundraising efforts, ongoing consultation, and to the preparation of funder proposals and reports
  • Provide information and make presentations to various stakeholders about best practices related to teacher induction, instructional coaching, and school leadership development
  • Represent NTC at events, meetings, and convocations involving educational initiatives or stakeholders that take place in the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California

Professional Learning Responsibilities

  • Participate in collaborative Bay Area team meetings/learning retreats and NTC internal learning sessions
  • Remain curious and current through professional readings and research especially relating to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, adult learning theory and Common Core State Standards/rigorous state standards
  • Share video and other artifacts of practice to support collaborative professional inquiry and action
  • Engage in formal formative assessment practices that support one's own and colleagues' professional growth
  • Develop conference proposals and conduct conference presentations
  • Effectively manage professional calendar, travel, financial and other job responsibilities
  • Learn to use and describe NTC's online systems

* Position will be remote based in the SF Bay Area with frequent travel to Oakland.

Position Requirements
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of recent classroom teaching experience (K-12)
  • Minimum 2 years of mentoring experience in NTC-supported model or equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge of the San Francisco Bay Area public educational landscape preferred
  • Must have previously served as an Associate Program Consultant or had equivalent leadership experience at school or district level
  • Must be experienced with Common Core State Standards or new rigorous state standards
  • Valid teaching and/or administrative certificate/licensure
  • Successful completion of NTC Professional Learning Series 1- 8 and Presenters Institute preferred
  • Experience with NTC program implementation preferred
  • Knowledge of NTC’s approach to new teacher and principal development, Theory of Action, induction standards, instructional coaching standards, formative assessment and support tools. protocols, and services
  • Knowledge of professional teaching and/or administrative standards, content materials, assessment and methods that improve student achievement in core standard areas
  • Foundational knowledge of Culturally Responsive/Sustaining Pedagogies and demonstrated curiosity about implications of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in educational environments
  • Knowledge and experience designing professional learning
  • Experience with peer coaching/data-guided professional feedback
  • Experience with supporting non-profit funding processes preferred
  • Ability to develop and write professional publications, training materials, grants and reports
  • Ability to manage complex programs involving multiple participants
  • Ability to manage one’s time and productivity in a fluid, team-oriented work environment with a high level of initiative, creativity and flexibility
  • Ability to collaborate with NTC personnel to assess and improve client services using innovative and measurably effective approaches
  • Demonstrate ability to develop strong professional relationships and work well within districts and NTC
  • Reflective practitioner demonstrating the ability to use feedback to improve self, program and community
  • Knowledge of school reform, professional learning communities, and the influence of coaching on professional identity, commitments, and practice in service to student and learning community needs
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories and practices
  • Willingness to travel based on office location/client or project assignments – 50% - 70% time
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • General knowledge of Google Apps, Adobe Acrobat, virtual meeting software and experience with assessment data desirable
  • ADA Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Work normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
  • Limited physical effort required
  • May have substantial national travel based on office location/client assignments
  • Requires a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to type a minimum of 40 wpm
  • Driving, grasping, hearing, repetitive hand motions, lifting under 50 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, talking, typing
