Description

Astronics Test Systems is looking for an Electrical Design Engineer specializing in analog and high-speed digital circuit design to join our Aerospace and Defense team responsible for designing and developing modern communications test systems and solutions. In addition to developing new designs and architectures, the candidate must have solid experience in all phases of new product development; from concept to production.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the total end-to-end process of capturing requirements, designing, developing, validating, testing, documenting, and transition to manufacturing of electrical and electronics systems and subsystems.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional product development team to effectively plan and execute electrical PCB designs to meet critical project requirements and deadlines.
  • Perform schematic capture and direct PCB layout.
  • Define and document characterization and calibration methodologies, Validation and Verification (V&V) plans, and lead the V&V process for individual designs.
  • Develop firmware for microcontrollers, microprocessors, and SoCs.
  • Enhance existing systems to comply with new customer requirements or manage obsolescence.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Experience and understanding in the application of principles, theories, concepts, practices and standards relating to modern software-defined architectures and synthetic instrumentation designs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in PCB stackup definition and trade-off analysis, including physical geometry, material selection, crosstalk mitigation, return path management, and manufacturability.
  • Experience with simulation tools, such as LTSpice, HyperLynx, or other Spice and SI/PI tools.
  • Extensive experience and thorough understanding of modern high-speed bus interfaces, including but not limited to USB 3.x, DDRx, PCIe Gen 2/3, Gigabit Ethernet, JESD 204B, and FPGA SERDES interfaces.
  • Experience developing complex mixed-signal designs and architectures.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ with an emphasis on embedded architectures. Working knowledge of basic SoC architecture and HDL languages like VHDL.
  • In-depth understanding of schematic capture, circuit design, design tools, circuit simulation, and circuit layout design, techniques, and verification methodologies.
  • Experienced in developing design documentation and test instructions/procedures.
  • Experienced in taking a product design from concept to production.
  • Experienced in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for test (DFT).
  • Experience designing to meet Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) requirements.
  • Analytical reasoning and problem solving with knowledge in performing root cause analysis and recommending corrective action to resolve test failures.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a US person.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (BSEE) or related field is required, Master’s Degree (MSEE) is preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in Electrical Design.

Computer Skills:

  • Experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and layout.
  • Experience with simulation tools, such as LTSpice, HyperLynx, ADIsimCLK, etc.
  • Experience with software and firmware development languages, such as C, C++, C#, VHDL, MATLAB, and LabVIEW.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
