Description

LSA is seeking a senior level biologist for its San Luis Obispo office. This is a project manager level position. The candidate should have experience managing projects, including conducting meetings with clients and regulatory agencies, coordinating reviews with technical staff, scoping projects for the appropriate level of services needed, budget control, maintaining schedules, managing subconsultants, and conducting quality control. The appropriate candidate will be expected to develop new work as well as oversee existing work and biological staff.

 
Position Requirements

A bachelor’s degree or higher in natural or physical sciences is required. Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience, with a strong and proven foundation in Central Coast and/or Central Valley region biological resources and impact assessments. Specific areas of expertise should include field surveys and impact assessment of proposed projects on local wildlife species and plant communities, sensitive/listed species and their habitats (e.g., California red-legged frog, California tiger salamander, San Joaquin kit fox, Morro shoulder-band snail, fairy shrimp, and steelhead), and familiarity with all applicable State and federal regulations pertaining to biological resources (e.g., Section 404, 401, and 1602). Possession of permits for handling and capturing listed species is also desirable. The candidate must have expertise in conducting wetlands delineations, resource agency permitting, mitigation plan development, preparation of biological reports, and preparation of biological sections for CEQA and NEPA documents.

Strong emphasis is placed on previous technical experience, quality of work, and the ability to manage project budgets and schedules. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential. Salary is commensurate with experience.
