Facilities Assistant

Summary/Objective:

Under the direction of the Manager, Facilities, the Facilities Assistant I assists in the maintenance of office buildings, grounds and loading dock areas, as well as limited equipment within the production area. Duties are performed primarily indoors and outdoors at the, and require frequent heavy lifting, climbing, working at varied heights, and the ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide on-site handy-man support.
  • Repair and maintain general facilities equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect, diagnose and make all types of repairs or rebuild, including walls, doors, restrooms, building, clean filters, painting, furniture moves and changes, plumbing, carpet, ceiling tile and light bulbs.
  • Inspect, diagnose and make all types of repairs or rebuild to the exterior premises, including irrigation, drainage and lighting.
  • Inspect, diagnose and maintain life safety equipment including fire extinguishers and sprinkler heads. Read and understand alarm codes.
  • Operate portable power tools and basic shop machinery as required for repairs, modifications, improvements, and rebuilds of existing facilities equipment.
  • May be involved in periodic maintenance inspections of facilities for safety hazards and regulation requirements.
  • Maintain records, report on status of projects and ongoing maintenance work.
  • Follow current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety policies and guidelines, including safe work habits, plant dress codes, hygiene standards and housekeeping requirements unique to the work area and job classification.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum 6 months related experience and/or training as a handyman or in a skilled trade.
  • Proficiency with computer software and tablets.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Technical school certification.
  • Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice).
  • Proficiency with Macon or other work order software.

Supervisory Responsibility:
None

Work Environment:
Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions in the plant. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. This position is very active and the employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl all day. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds. No specific vision requirements.

Objects weighing 50 pounds or more must be accompanied by a second individual to avoid injury.
