Maintenance Manager

Salary: $80-100k + 10% Bonus


Summary/Objective:

This position is to provide effective leadership for the overall maintenance for the manufacturing plant. The Maintenance Leader will not only be a plant technical expert, but will support and influence the efforts of the other plant technical experts in the Technical Support Team. The position requires skills in managing and developing people, delivering results across key performance metrics (including safety, quality, and cost) supporting the launch of new products, managing change, and driving continuous improvement. The Assistant Plant Manager collaborates closely with various departments to drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the production and manufacturing process to increase capacity, operational effectiveness and efficiency. The Assistant Plant Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager.

This position serves as a plant technical expert whose primary focus is leadership and stewardship for the maintenance function across the plant including application of consistent standards and practices. Leverages the use of outside contractors and maintenance function to realize operational improvement and development of maintenance mechanic skills / training. This position is designed to achieve business results to include safety, improvement methods, quality and productivity. The associate will apply best practices to plant operations and ensure best practice maintenance systems are in use and that proper documentation exists for the plant systems, i.e. Maintenance Planning, Storeroom Inventory, CAD drawings, OPLs, P&IDs.

The Sunrise facility operates 24/7 with a team of 328 hourly associates, 6 temporary workers, and 28 salaried employees. The plant produces the majority of Nutranext products for The Clorox Company. The plant has an operating budget of $22.7 M/yr. The plant typically spends $6-10M in capital improvements per year (exclusive of large projects). For FY19, the plant is scheduled to run more than 20M units.


Essential Functions:

  • Safety
    • Ensure the Technical Support Team is following established safety procedures and working safely.
    • Provide new safety enhancement recommendations for any and all equipment or procedures.
  • Human Resource and Employee Relations
    • Responsible for training, development and mentoring of Team’s Associates.
    • Assist the Resources in the consistent application of the operational procedures and policies.
    • Model Team and individual behaviors.
  • Operating objectives and goals including support of plant wide safety initiatives.
    • Responsible for identifying and correcting problems that effect business results and efficiencies.
    • Responsible (assist) for improving current performance results.
    • Assist in developing cost saving projects.
    • Works with Plant Leadership to establish operational and manufacturing standards.
  • Strategic management, support plant wide and division activities and initiatives.
    • Participate in planning and installing activities such as annual planning, line layout design and component and equipment recommendations.
    • Platform Team initiatives- Primary connected with installations and projects (e.g. rebuild) on equipment.
  • Personnel Development
    • Responsible for completing projects and development plans as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a high production-manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 5 years’ managing all aspects of a team of professionals and/or support workers.
  • Proven leadership skills including independent thinking, organization and planning.
  • Experience with maintenance planning systems and tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or technical field.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Working knowledge of SAP and or other ERP processes and systems

Supervisory Responsibility: Direct supervisory responsibility including the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such actions.
Work Environment: Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions in the plant. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Objects weighing 50 pounds or more must be accompanied by a second individual to avoid injury.
