We are seeking mission focused professionals to serve as a full time Family Development Specialist responsible for providing initial and on-going training and development of foster families and conduct/write initial and recertification home studies.

As a Family Development Specialist, you would:

  • Teach Fort Wayne pre-service curriculum for prospective and some of SAFY’s current foster parents. Classes typically require some evening involvement.
  • Assist the team in delivering the on-going training and development of foster parents. These classes generally occur on the weekends.
  • License prospective foster homes in a 90-day time frame; and conduct recertifications of current foster homes 30 days prior to expiration. Write home studies, partnership plans and assessments.
  • Keep all Foster Parent files in 100% compliance.
  • Travel throughout surrounding counties, including unfamiliar, hard to reach rural areas. Overall hours being worked outside of the office is estimated to be around 40%, which includes traveling to and from homes and time spent at the home study interviews.
  • Set your schedule in collaboration with the team. Generally, we work 40+ hours a week based on the availability of the families we serve. There may be times when you may need to work until 8pm or later. Your supervisor will work with you to flex time as needed.
  • Regular scheduled Indiana team calls bi-weekly.
    Position Requirements

    What you bring to this role:

    • Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, sociology, or child & family studies is required.
    • 1-2 years child welfare experience highly preferred.
    • Experience writing home studies highly preferred.
    • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred
    • Demonstrated ability to organize, hold yourself accountable to setting and keeping your own deadlines, and be able to manage and secure large volumes of paperwork.
