Title: Research Assistant

Type: Active

Program: Possibility Engineering and Research Lab (PEARL), Bloorview Research Institute

Reports to: Elaine Biddiss

Work Status: Temporary Full-time (1.0 FTE)

Contract: 1 year contract with strong possibility of extension

Dates: July 2, 2019 - July 1, 2020

Salary: $25.26 - $30.19

Working within the Possibility Engineering and Research Lab (PEARL) and alongside an interdisciplinary research team including engineers, game developers, physio and occupational therapists, you will be part of various projects focused on the design, evaluation, and translation of interactive technologies to enable children with disabilities to participate more meaningfully in arts, music, physical activities, and therapies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with organizing and running playtesting and design workshops; ensuring a positive and engaging experience for research participants and design partners;
  • Responsible for recruitment, scheduling of appointments, and data collection for research studies;
  • Assist with data entry and analysis;
  • Organize study materials including study binders, ethics documents, and data
  • Maintain study documentation;
  • Assist with knowledge translation (e.g. web presence, social media, family engagement);
  • Assist with Research Ethics Board submissions and documentation;
  • Responsible for conducting literature searches;
  • Assist in preparing grant applications and manuscripts;
  • Prepare and submit purchase requisitions; expense forms; budget tracking
  • Ensure research is conducted in compliance with the Bloorview Research Ethics Board and Tri-Council Policy Statement;
  • Assist with inventory and maintenance of research equipment.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, engineering, psychology, science, or other related field;
  • Exceptional organizational skills;
  • Exceptional communication skills; Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to function independently, and yet collaboratively, within a research team;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with children;
  • Demonstrated computer skills;
  • Previous research experience is an asset;
  • Experience with interviewing and qualitative methods an asset;
  • Experience with statistical software packages and data analysis methods an asset;
  • Experience with graphics design and communication an asset;
  • Ability to work flexible hours an asset.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages an asset.

The ideal candidate will have a long-term commitment to developing his/her skills as a research assistant.
