About the Organization The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQIA+) community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research, and advocacy. Fenway Health was founded in 1971 and has grown from a less than 10 person operation in the basement of a building near the Boston Fens to one of the largest LGBT-focused organizations in the world. It consists of three main centers:

• Fenway Community Health Center, our clinical arm, which is a federally qualified health center that operates three clinic sites (Fenway:1340, Fenway:South End, and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center) in the Boston area and provides over 30,000 patients with primary and specialty medical care, behavioral health care, optometry care, and dental care;

• The Fenway Institute, our research/training/education/policy development arm, which houses numerous research initiatives as well as the National LGBT Education Project, the LGBT Aging Project, the National Center for Innovation in HIV Care, and the Center for Population Research in LGBT Health; and

• AIDS Action, our HIV/AIDS service organization, which provides nonclinical services (case management, housing and legal assistance, outreach, peer support) to people living with HIV/AIDS and operates numerous programs focusing on HIV/STD prevention/testing/treatment, including the Access (drug user health program), TransCEND (transgender peer support and risk reduction program), and Youth on Fire (drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth) programs.

Position Lead Mammography Technologist  
Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time  

Reporting to the Radiology Department Manager, the Lead Mammography Technologist is responsible for Mammography’s QC program. The Lead Radiology/Mammography Technologist will serve as the lead mammography technologist and is expected to perform: digital screening mammography exams, digital x-ray exams and DEXA scans.

Representative Duties:

  1. Provides oversight of the outpatient mammography center
  • Ensures that all exam rooms and other inventory are fully stocked
  • Monitors and adjusts clinic workflows as necessary
  1. Performs X-rays, screening mammograms, and bone densitometry (full body & total body) studies
  • Greet each client with a smile and welcoming, professional manner
  • Calls patients from the lobby into the exam room
  • Understands and maintains universal precautions in all clinical activities
  • Disinfects exam rooms daily and after contamination of communicable disease exposure with appropriate cleaning agent, or insures that this is done
  1. Performs Quality Control/Improvement
  • Administers the Mammography QC program following MQSA, DPH and ACR guidelines
  • Assists Radiologist with the annual MQSA/DPH inspection and the ACR accreditation and reaccreditation process to include the selection and submission of images representative of the quality standards
  • Monitors compliance with MQSA/ ACR/ Joint Commission regulations
  • Manages patient inquiries and tracks patient call-backs
  • Develops and maintains screening mammography tracking system
  • Maintains mammography equipment and audits for equipment safety
  1. Effectively communicates with patients, coworkers on medical team, in medical department and across departments
  • Demonstrates competency in EMR, Microsoft Outlook, Infinitt
  • Confirms demographic information before conducting exam or scan; accurately record and enter any changes received
  • Abides by recognized ALARA & HIPAA requirements
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer services
  • Assists in training other employees in the medical support department
  • Remains familiar with emergency procedures and codes
  • Receives and places necessary telephone calls consistent with professional matters and clinic business
  • Reads and maintains departmental policies and procedures

  • Adheres to all agency and departmental policies and procedures
  • Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested
  • Adheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality

  • Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
  • Attends all regularly scheduled research meetings, trainings, forums and pertinent FCH staff meetings
  • Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities
  • Serves on agency committees and in professional organizations when requested
  1. Performs other related duties as required

Position Requirements


  • Education: Associate degree in Radiologic Technology with certification in mammography
  • License/Certifications: Massachusetts RT license, Mammography certification, current standing with ARRT, BLS certification
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in mammography
  • Knowledge of mammography QC requirements (MQSA, ACR regulations)
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required
  • Experience working in an ethnically, culturally and racially diverse environment

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • OSHA category 1
  • Physical Requirements: regularly required – sitting; using hands to manipulate objects/tools/controls; reaching with hands and arms; standing and adjusting patient positioning; talking; hearing; occasional lifting required up to 25lbs
  • Noise level: usually quiet

Supervisory Expectations
The Lead Radiology/Mammography Technologist will act as lead Tech and supervise other Technologists
