We began in Watsonville 1978 as a storefront “free clinic,” and with the ever growing need for health services, in 1992 it became a federally qualified community health center. Today we are a primary health care network with 11 clinic sites, over 400 employees, and continue to provide high quality services to patients of all ages.

We are seeking a dynamic, organized and detail-oriented full scope Midwife to provide professional care for patients with obstetric and gynecologic needs. Ensures safety and health of mother and child and identifies need for additional care

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Consistently adhere to and/or exceed SALUD’s communication guidelines and expectations with internal and external customers including co-workers, patients, and external partners.
  • Communicate effectively by using welcoming words, proper tone of voice, appropriate body language, eye contact and smiling in all interactions. Listen skillfully and display a willingness and ability to acknowledge patient and co-workers’ needs, expectations and values through the use of reflective listening and empathy conveyance. Respond to co-worker and patient needs in ways that are helpful and beyond expectation.
  • Provides clinical consultation to the Comprehensive Prenatal Services Program (CPSP) and staff as needed.
  • Performs direct patient care, including history-taking, physical examination, appropriate diagnostic procedures, therapy, and follow-up, under established protocols.
  • Provides medical care and treatment to obstetrical patients under the supervision of the Ob/GYN in the clinic and in the hospital.
  • Instructs patients in prenatal and postnatal health practices.
  • Participates in initial examination of obstetrical patient.
  • Responsible for the care, treatment, and delivery of patient.
  • Examines patient during pregnancy, utilizing physical findings, laboratory test results, and patient’s statements to evaluative condition and ensure patient progress is normal.
  • Discusses cases with Ob/GYN to assure observation of specified practices.
  • Instructs patients in diet and prenatal health practices.
  • Maintains records of cases for inclusion in patient files.
  • Conducts classes for groups of patients and families to provide information concerning pregnancy, childbirth, and family orientation.
  • Works with scheduling staff to insure that provider productivity standards of 2.5 patients per patient care hour is achieved at a minimum.
  • Works in conjunction with the Clinic Business Manager, to insure optimal patient flow;
  • Assists with evaluations of CPSP staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current CA Certified Nurse Midwife license and/or FNP license and/or FNP with prenatal license
  • Licensed Registered Nurse
  • Current CPR certification
  • Valid CA Drivers License and current vehicle insurance; must be able to travel between sites.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bicultural candidates preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish/English
