Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. We provide academically rigorous, vibrant learning grounded in social justice and student centered pedagogy. Our entire community is committed to cultivating each student's unique talents and passions, providing myriad opportunities for students to discern and realize their individual intellectual, artistic, athletic, social, and spiritual potential. SHC is a San Francisco Archdiocesan High School that is cosponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, District of San Francisco New Orleans and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Province of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

Description

Position Summary: This is a 5/5 (100% FTE) position.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Model for students the characteristics of a Lasallian/Vincentian educator;Support SHC's mission, philosophy and ESLRs;
  • Facilitate student success, with a primary focus on the students' academic development, while supporting healthy personal and social development as a high school student;
  • In collaboration with department colleagues, facilitate the efforts of students to achieve the Counseling and Advising department goals;
  • Promote positive and effective working relationships among school counselors and college advisors, and with SHC teachers, administrators, and parents/guardians;
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of the SHC Counseling Curriculum:
    • Regularly meet each class of counselees in counseling groups as scheduled by the program to cover segments of the counseling curriculum
    • Establish and maintain groups for each class of counselees to communicate general information and answer questions on the school's learning management system;
  • Conduct a minimum of one individual counseling session with each counselee per semester;
  • Meet with students, their families, and teachers, to support student learning and to ensure successful navigation of the SHC curriculum to:
    • meet SHC graduation requirements, including understanding prerequisites for honors and AP courses, Wellness and co-curricular participation;
    • facilitate required or optional summer school attendance; andaccess each student's optimal post-secondary educational opportunity;
  • Respond to concerns noted by teachers, parents, or administrators about counselees in a timely fashion;
  • Monitor students' grades and follow up with students, teachers, and parents to address deficiencies in a timely manner;
  • Document all contacts with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other personnel in the school's student information system;
  • Serve as the liaison between home and school to minimize disruption in course completion for counselees who are absent from school for significant periods of time;
  • Assist in the administration of standardized testing;
  • Collaborate on periodic presentations outside the school schedule on relevant counseling issues.
 
Position Requirements

Required Qualifications
Master's Degree in School Counseling (or the equivalent);
Background of working with high school students in a college preparatory school;
Ability to work collaboratively to promote student learning.

Desired Qualifications
Experience in a Catholic high school setting;
Experience as a school counselor.

Pupil Personnel Services Credential (or equivalent)

Education and/or Experience:
Master's Degree in School Counseling (or equivalent)
