Description

Position Summary
This is a 5/5 (100% FTE) position, teaching lower division courses in our English preparatory curriculum and, for qualified candidates, yearbook.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Model for students the characteristics of a Lasallian Vincentian educator;

  • Support SHC's mission, philosophy and ESLRs;

  • Develop students' abilities to read broadly, deeply and joyfully in fiction, non-fiction, and informational texts;

  • Facilitate students' critical literacy and voice;

  • In collaboration with English Department colleagues, and per the department outcomes (see https://www.shcp.edu/academics/category/english

    • Design and implement standards-based lessons to facilitate critical thinking and mastery of essential skills and understandings as determined by the English department;

    • Plan and implement what students will learn, how they will learn, and how they will be assessed in a manner appropriate to the grade level;

    • Provide regular and varied assessments of student learning to compile accurate grades and properly determine what and how all students are learning;

  • Maintain an interactive and timely learning environment, in both physical and virtual learning spaces;

  • Communicate consistently with students, parents, and school personnel;

  • Keep current and complete electronic grading and attendance records.

  • Work with the Academic Resource Specialist and/or counselors to accommodate students who have learning differences;

  • Participate in the cocurricular life of the school.

 
Position Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in English or Creative Writing;

  • Teaching credential or work toward it;

  • Experience working with high school students;

  • Ability to work collaboratively to promote student learning.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in a Catholic high school setting;

  • Experience as a classroom teacher; experience in an English classroom preferred.
