As the Graduate Civil Engineer, you are an entry level engineer in training (EIT) responsible for working with experienced Civil Engineers and Project Managers in the design and development for civil engineering design projects. Typical work includes preparation of design documents and permits for site plans, utility plans and profiles, road design, traffic signal plans, traffic studies, grading plans and right-of-way plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation software. Your primary duties will be to provide professional support in the design and production of public and private infrastructure projects.


Project Quality

  • Bring design thinking to the process of producing contract documents.
  • Participate in a team-oriented environment as well as function independently.
  • Maintain multiple small project assignments and work with multiple project engineers.
  • Produce preliminary concepts with oversite and full design phase deliverables including drawings, specifications, cost estimates, quantity take-offs, technical reports, narratives, and permit applications.
  • Assist Senior Engineers with transportation related analyses by performing traffic data collection tasks, including intersection turning movements counts, intersection inventories, speed studies, gap studies, delay studies, travel time studies, parking studies, and non-motorized studies.
  • Assist others with field inspection services for conformance to plans and specifications and preparation of reports as a follow up.
  • Assist in field data gathering for land surveying and traffic impact studies.
  • Compile crash data at intersections and prepare collision diagrams.
  • Assist in the preparation of calculations and analyses for stormwater management systems, sanitary sewer, water supply and distribution, roadways, traffic studies, and traffic signal design.
  • Prepare Construction Permitting documents.
  • Participate in estimating the time required to complete a project.
  • Attend municipal meetings with senior team members when necessary. Consult with regulatory agencies when necessary.
  • Provide drafting services and final engineering documents consistent with Progressive’s standards.
  • Alert the Senior Civil Engineer when a change in scope of work changes.
  • Coordinate use and track shared electronic documentation and files with internal and external project team members including clients, contractors and consultants.
  • Use design software/technology, including Revit, AutoCAD 3D, HEC RAS, EPANET, MicroStation and other emerging technologies for presentation and production purposes.
  • Act as an ambassador for company-wide values and ethical standards of practice.
  • Attend and actively participate in team meetings and activities including ‘Lessons Learned’ sessions.


  • Produce contract documents that are efficient and consistent with the scope of work, schedule, and fee allotted to complete the work.
  • Alert the Senior Civil Engineer when inconsistencies occur as they relate to design and documentation.

Position Requirements


  • BS in Civil Engineering required. Passed Fundamentals of Engineering exam (or in process.)
  • Minimum of 0 – 5 years of experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required, with no driving or other infractions that would preclude insurability.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, load and unload vehicle, and drive personal vehicle daily.
  • Proficient with MicroStation or AutoCAD and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project and Outlook).
  • Experience in HEC RAS, EPANET (water distribution) preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, technical and presentation skills.
  • Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and integrate work effectively with designers, engineers, construction administrators, consultants and any other members of the project team.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance/quality control processes.
  • Ability to communicate professionally to people both internally and externally within all levels of the organization(s) they represent.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Comfortable working under pressure in deadline-driven, client service environment.
  • Ability to successfully prioritize work, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
