Description

STR performs advanced research and development using machine learning, program analysis, optimization, artificial intelligence, and formal methods for the cybersecurity and resiliency of cyber-physical systems. Targeting the hardest security challenges facing our national defense, STR is developing cutting-edge capabilities in cyber-physical systems modeling, vulnerability analysis, and attack detection and remediation.

We seek talented engineers to create scalable, cutting edge emulation/virtualization solutions for research, analysis, and prototyping of cyber-physical systems. Experience with open-source and/or commercial tools such as QEMU, Unicorn, and VirtualBox is desired. Candidates seeking opportunities to develop and apply emulation technologies for a variety of embedded system and software/hardware architectures are encouraged to apply. We are growing rapidly and hiring at all levels for new and exciting projects.

Job Description:

  • Work in small research teams to develop innovative capabilities for rehosting and analyzing software, firmware, and hardware associated with cyber-physical systems
  • Create and instrument virtual machines/devices to represent a variety of software environments and hardware types
  • Collaborate with vulnerability research and assessment teams to develop emulation tools, workflows, and infrastructure
  • Research novel hypervisor and virtualization solutions to push the boundaries of portability, flexibility, and speed
  • Develop orchestration tools to for carrying out automated, scalable emulation-based experiments and analysis
  • Develop and use verification & validation tools
 
Position Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Cybersecurity or related field
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance (US Citizen)

Desired Qualifications (one or more of these areas):

  • Experience with QEMU, Unicorn, VirtualBox, Simics, bochs, VLAB, or other similar hypervisor/emulation toolsets
  • Knowledge of hardware architectures / ISAs (e.g., x86, ARM)
  • Experience with OS internals (e.g., kernel modules, interrupt controllers, device I/O)
  • Experience working with embedded peripherals, interfaces, and device drivers (UART, USB, PCI, SPI)
  • Experience with development, integration, and testing in distributed environments
  • Experience with Python and C/C++
  • Active security clearance
