The Position:

Senior Storage & Systems Administrator to support the STR Enterprise Infrastructure, Information Assurance (IA) team and program technical staff for ongoing and emerging programs based on information technology requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in storage and backup engineering and administration, in particular with Network Attached Storage (NAS) utilizing NetApp technologies.

Job Description:

Storage and Backup Systems

  • Storage and Backup design, implementation, upgrades and operation of all of STR’s storage and backup infrastructure
  • Understanding of the security requirements of properly managing storage, backups and the associated data and access controls
  • Configuration of Network attached storage (NAS) for Virtualization backend and backups, SAN, iSCSI, NFS
  • Knowledge of systems administration, virtualization and their interactions with the storage and backup infrastructure
  • Ability to specify storage and backup requirements, estimate cost, and provide quotes to meet project needs and budget alignment
  • Design, develop, and support storage and backup deployments for systems in air-gapped networks; ensure storage availability and capacity planning
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex interactions in storage, servers, networks and databases in collaboration with other systems administrators and technical teams
  • Ability to properly sanitize storage and backup data in compliance with government regulations and best practices
  • Manage backup and recovery operations for multiple locations
  • Maintain highly secured storage systems through proper configuration and system access monitoring
  • Maintenance (including patching & upgrades) of all storage and backup hardware and software; troubleshoot host/server failures and related issues; perform routine data backups; documenting maintenance actions taken; infrastructure diagrams; document and prepare security migrations
  • Rapidly respond to patch management requirements by assessing risk, devising plans, and executing plans to all storage, backups and associated components
  • Monitoring and alerting of all storage devices
  • Documenting all storage and backup infrastructure, processes and procedures

Data Center Operations and Disaster Recovery

  • Principal member of team overseeing Data Center/Server Room operations: System provisioning, monitoring/alerting, network configuration, administration of Linux, Windows, VMWare and vSphere
  • Conduct internal reviews of infrastructure components and recommendations for improvements
  • Ensure smooth deployment of new applications across the enterprise storage infrastructure and ensure that the data is protected to meet appropriate service levels
  • Disaster Recovery planning, implementation and operations
  • Ensure high availability of all critical applications while meeting or exceeding Service Level Agreements (SLA)
  • Propose service levels, data types, recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO) that align with a business impact analysis outcome to meet company objectives
  • Establish and validate full functionality of disaster recovery environment for critical business applications
  • Work closely with technical teams to detect storage faults and performance issues and proactively implement monitoring services and alerts to prevent future occurrences

Project Management

  • Lead, manage and execute projects approved by the Government and documented in the ticketing system
  • Manage the overall execution of projects by serving as the technical lead and subject matter expert and being accountable for the project outcome
  • Interact with other system administrators, technology engineers, service providers to meet project and program goals
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation
 
Position Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive technical (hands-on) experience related to storage and system administration, Information Assurance/Cyber Engineering requirements, determination, development, and implementation
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux and/or Windows operating systems and administration
  • Strong working knowledge of Storage and Backup infrastructure of NetApp and Backup Exec
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Good knowledge of at least one scripting language
  • Ability to mentor more junior members
  • Ability to cooperate and work in a team; lead projects with a team of peers
  • Bachelor's Degree or better in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related technical field preferred or equivalent experience
  • Experience performing patch updates and vulnerability remediation of storage and backup environments


Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of understanding of LAN/WAN networks
  • Knowledge of information system security techniques
  • Experience with security features and/or vulnerability of various operating systems as defined by NIST, DISA (STIGs), and USCYBERCOM. Experience with network and system security administration, including operating system security configuration and account management best practices for Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, RedHat), Window Server, Windows clients, Microsoft Exchange, and CISCO systems
  • Current U.S. Government Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility or willingness to be submitted for clearance
  • DoDI 8570.01-M IAT/IAM Level-II Compliant Certification (such as Security+ or CISSP) a plus
  • Experience working on U.S. Government contract proposals as an Information Assurance/Information Security Engineering subject matter expert a plus
  • Self-starter requiring limited direction and supervision
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple customer requests in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Willing to travel occasionally to other office locations
