Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the general oversight of all HR functions and systems. The primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: onboarding employees/volunteers/interns, managing all position postings, and is the point person for the HRIS and all subsystems (ATS, LMS, Manager SS, and ESS) This position is the central point of contact for HR compliance with auditors (internal/external). This role is a key contributor to the HR Team, while developing HR workflows and adding efficiencies.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Has direct oversight of the onboarding process for STVCC, which includes employees, volunteers, and interns. Communicates clearance notifications to the appropriate program.
  • Completes all verifications, background checks, reference checks, and any clearances required by grants for state/federal licensing bodies to ensure STVCC is in compliance.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Ensures ongoing compliance for annual processes - clearances, evaluations, TB renewals, etc. Also serves as primary contact for external and internal auditors for Human Resources.
  • Responsible for HRIS (and all sub-systems) data entry and maintenance.
  • Ability to establish workflows, manage multiple projects and meet necessary deadlines.
  • Responsible for running ad hoc reports upon request for the Director of Administrative Services.
  • Coordinates centralized hiring process including updating job descriptions, postings, etc. Posts open positions to externals websites.
  • Responsible for the scheduling and logistical coordination of the New Employee Orientation.
  • Maintains positive and professional relationships and represents the best interests of the agency at all times.
  • Ensures that the agency is compliant with Federal, State, local laws and contract/grantor compliance regarding employment records. Also serves as point person for archived records.
  • Advises on standard operation procedures within HR, and other issues, including scheduling, promotion and benefits.
  • Planning and coordination of trainings, events, and meetings hosted by HR. This includes HR staff meetings, responsible for action item tracking and meeting minutes.

Position Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Education: Possession of Bachelors Degree in Human Resources (or related field), or equivalent experience.

Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of progressive work experience in the Human Resources field preferred. Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws. Experience in HRIS systems (subsystems) preferred. Experience in training, benefits, employment files, interviewing, employee satisfaction, rewards preferred.

Registration, licenses, certifications or special training: A valid Michigan Driver License and access to reliable transportation.

Physical Demands: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Emotionally able to work with information that may be traumatic in nature, as well as, work with individuals or families in crisis or experiencing trauma.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk up to 8 hours per shift.
  • Work involves talking, stooping, squatting, twisting, climbing, kneeling, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit and use computer workstation, including keyboard and visual display terminal for extended periods of time.
  • Noise in the work environment is usually moderately quiet but can be very loud at times.
  • Work in an environment with various degrees of discomfort.
  • Driving as needed throughout the day.
