Are you ready to join an elite group of people to provide education, outreach, programming, and testing through Change Point, a program of Northern Nevada HOPES which incidentally is Nevada's first legal syringe services program! Change Point is a sex positive and substance user friendly center providing syringe services, harm reduction supplies, and free HIV and Hepatitis C testing. Our Harm Reduction and Outreach team provides targeted street outreach in the community and welcomes testing opportunities at special events. We embrace diversity and advocate for medically underserved groups in the community. We have an opening for a Community Health Worker. One of the primary focuses of this role will be to assist with Naloxone education and work as an important part of the team.

  • We are a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). The mission of all FQHCs is to provide excellent health care services to otherwise under-served populations. We accept most insurance plans, Medicaid, Medicare, and the uninsured. For the uninsured, we offer discounted services based on a sliding fee scale.
  • We are a National Health Service Corp site, and our providers are eligible to apply toward a federal loan forgiveness program

The Community Health Worker's objective is to support the core goals of Change Point, which are HIV and Hepatitis C testing, syringe services, risk reduction education and assisting clients in accessing support services such as primary care, substance abuse treatment, behavioral health services and homeless shelters.

Position Requirements
  • The ability to obtain a Laboratory Assistant Certification within 30 days of hire and maintain it as a current.
  • Advanced education or experience in working with the underserved especially those experiencing homelessness, drug users, the LGBTQ+ community and those experiencing a serious mental illness.
  • Significant knowledge of health-related social issues faced by injection drug users
  • Knowledge of Harm Reduction Philosophy as a tool of engagement, Trauma Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing
  • Knowledge of risk reduction, safer injection techniques and overdose prevention
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment, self-directed, motivated but with ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • MUST be free of judgement and willing to accept choices of others
  • Computer skills essential for conducting data collection, entry and analysis
  • Able to work flexible hours.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
