Position Requirements

Ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills; excellent verbal and written communication; ability to prioritize, balance, and meet multiple goals/projects simultaneously; enjoy working in a flexible, often fast-paced, team-oriented environment; and able to plan for and meet deadlines. Must be able to make clear decisions while being a team player, work on both a large and small scale, and establish and follow fundamental objectives. Individual with a broad knowledge of current trends, scientific research, exhibition development, and community engagement. Applicants must have a PhD degree in a relevant field. In addition, a minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience is required in public science engagement with a museum, government agency, NGO, or equivalent with sound scholarship and broad community relevance and appeal.

 
Description

OBJECTIVE: Support COSI's Mission and Strategic Plan by supporting the development of quality educational experiences with a focus on science discovery and learning at COSI. This includes primary responsibility to refine and communicate key messages using COSI’s exhibitions, educational programming, and content marketing as the principal conduits.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:

  1. Research, refine, and communicate scientific content for multi-disciplinary exhibitions, gallery installations, and education programs that meet COSI’s mission and vision.
  2. Serve as content lead on project teams, guiding the collaborative development and implementation of scientific content for exhibition and programmatic projects; participate in audience research, community consultation, and co-creation as key elements of experience development.
  3. Work collaboratively with other divisions and Team Members to establish and implement experiences which are consistent with COSI's Mission and Strategic Plan; ensuring the highest quality experiences that are rich and creative in content and serve the largest possible number of participants from diverse backgrounds.
  4. Work with cross-institutional teams to ensure the scientific accuracy; identify project opportunities that will drive audiences and create meaningful connections between scientific content and COSI’s guests.
  5. Participate in the planning of touring exhibitions including, where feasible, modifying content and experience to better meet institutional goals and enhance the guest experience.
  6. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
  7. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI paid and Volunteer Team Members and Guests.
  8. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy, and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Exhibits & Programs.
