Assistant Plant Manager

Summary/Objective:

The Assistant Plant Manager will ask the candidate to bring a successful background in Supply Chain / Manufacturing. The role is accountable for all manufacturing operations, ensuring achievement of production goals and establishing policies and procedures. The position requires skills in managing and developing people, delivering results across key performance metrics (including safety, quality, and cost) supporting the launch of new products, managing change, and driving continuous improvement. This role helps lead all functions at the site, including Safety, Environmental, Manufacturing, Distribution, Engineering, Maintenance, HR, Quality, Scheduling, Finance, and Training. The Assistant Plant Manager collaborates closely with various departments to drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the production and manufacturing process to increase capacity, operational effectiveness and efficiency. The Assistant Plant Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager.

The Sunrise facility operates 24/7 with a team of 328 hourly associates, 6 temporary workers, and 28 salaried employees. The plant produces the majority of Nutranext products for The Clorox Company. The plant has an operating budget of $22.7 M/yr. The plant typically spends $6-10M in capital improvements per year (exclusive of large projects). For FY19, the plant is scheduled to run more than 20M units.


Essential Functions:

  • Plan, organize and direct the manufacturing operations to ensure the most effective return on assets.
  • Plan, implement and maintain processes to minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital.
  • Assure attainment of business objectives and productions schedules while ensuring product standards that will exceed customers' expectations.
  • Implement and maintain manufacturing strategies and action plans to ensure that the facility supports Company strategic initiatives.
  • Establish group and individual accountabilities throughout assigned departments for problem solving and cost reduction, both on a permanent and ad-hoc basis
  • Encourage use of new techniques and focus on fact-based problem solving.
  • Improve manpower utilization within existing departments and processes. Schedule stability that allows for maximum return on efficiencies.
  • Manage spending against budget and in relation to changes in production volume.
  • Work to establish management practices throughout assigned areas which include all employees' positive involvement with opportunity for constructive input and action.
  • Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes. Maintain and improve housekeeping in all areas.
  • Maintain individual skills keeping up to date with latest packaging and production management concepts.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or technical field.
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in a high production-manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 5 years' managing all aspects of a team of professionals and/or support workers.
  • Digital Supply Chain experience to include, but are not limited to: One Planning, WMS, eQMS, etc…
  • Proven leadership skills including independent thinking, organization and planning.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Working knowledge of SAP and or other ERP processes and systems

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. This position is very active and the employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl all day. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Objects weighing 50 pounds or more must be accompanied by a second individual to avoid injury.
