Training & Development Specialist 

Description

The Training & Development Specialist provides guidance on training and development, performance management, and employee recognition programs and initiatives. The Training & Development Specialist identifies program needs, develops, implements, and drives sustainable initiatives; is responsible for developing and managing comprehensive strategic communications for each program; drives best practices in training, performance, and employee recognition to meet the Zoo's mission and goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluates training needs to create new training programs or modifies and improves existing programs
  • Designs, coordinates, and presents organization-wide training and staff development programs using a variety of instructional techniques or formats
  • Develops and distributes training manuals, guides, and educational materials
  • Conducts presentations for new-employee orientations
  • Develops and administers the performance management program
  • Administers and manages the learning management system.
  • Administers the employee recognition programs and other mission-focused employee events
  • Conducts trainings for each program
  • Analyzes metrics and evaluates program effectiveness, ROI; creates reports and makes recommendations for improvements
  • Researches, recommends, and maintains vendor relationships

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Training & Development or a related business field from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years Training & Development experience
  • Experience developing, implementing or evaluating performance management systems
  • Experience developing and implementing employee recognition programs

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations, etc.)
  • Ability to effectively evaluate employee performance
  • Project Management experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to move up to 35 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to perform essential functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position works in a typical office environment and may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
