The Position:

Senior Systems Administrator to support the STR Enterprise Infrastructure, Information Assurance (IA) team and program technical staff for ongoing and emerging programs based on information technology requirements. The ideal candidate will have a majority (but not expected to have all) of the following qualifications:

Job Description:

  • Domains: IT infrastructure; Networking; Virtualization; system architecture design; system configuration management, administration, and troubleshooting; application deployment and support; user support; system and application documentation
  • Responsible for Data Center/Server Room operations; System provisioning, monitoring/alerting, network configuration, administration of Linux, Windows, VMWare and vSphere
  • Configuration of Network attached storage (NAS) for Virtualization backend and backups, SAN, iSCSI, NFS
  • Design, develop, and support server and network deployments for technical programs; ensure system availability and capacity planning; OS builds/upgrades; system patching; apply OS configuration to new systems; troubleshoot host/server failures and related issues; perform routine data backups; documenting maintenance actions taken; infrastructure diagrams; document and prepare security migrations
  • Experience with configuration automation tools such as Ansible, Docker, Python, PowerShell
  • Experience with provisioning automation with Kickstart, vSphere API, AWS API, Puppet, Chef
  • Ability to spec system requirements, estimate cost, and provide quotes to meet project needs and budget alignment
  • Ability to complete schedule of weekly audit reviews; user management; profile updates; inspection preparation; sanitizations of equipment; AV updates; validate OS technical controls and compliance; ensure all HW changes follow Security Department procedures; responsible for laptop sign-outs and Removable Media Access Forms; documenting maintenance actions taken
  • OS configuration with Active Directory, for policy enforcement though GPO, and user and group management
  • Evaluate and propose use of open source and commercial software, frameworks, and tools where applicable
  • Interact with other system administrators, technology engineers, service providers to meet project and program goals
  • Perform all related duties as assigned
  • Ensure smooth deployment of new applications across the enterprise
  • Conducting internal reviews of infrastructure components and recommendations for improvements
  • Administer Active Directory services, member servers and storage, integrate new technologies into new and existing systems, including the transition and migration of enterprise systems
  • Determine isolation and resolution of complex hardware and software problems involving the application, the operating system, the hardware, the communications infrastructure, and/or any combination thereof
  • Lead, manage, and execute projects approved by the Government and documented in the ticketing system
  • Perform systems administration of desktop and server systems connected to local and wide area networks
  • Desktop system management responsibilities involving account monitoring, security, Operating System installation, and other local area system administration related functions
  • Ensure high availability of all critical applications and servers while meeting or exceeding Service Level Agreements (SLA)
  • Manage the overall execution of projects by serving as the technical lead and subject matter expert and being accountable for the project outcome
  • Rapidly respond to patch management requirements by assessing risk, devising plans, and executing plans to all servers, server components, and other devices
  • Establish and validate full functionality of disaster recovery environment for critical business applications
  • Manage backup and recovery operations for multiple locations
  • Work closely with technical teams to detect network faults and performance issues and proactively implement monitoring services and alerts to prevent future occurrences
  • Maintain highly secured systems through proper configuration and system access monitoring
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation
 
Position Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Work experience as a Linux and/or Windows Senior System Administrator
  • Strong working knowledge of Storage and Backup infrastructure of NetApp and Backup Exec
  • Good knowledge of at least one scripting language
  • Solid understanding of LAN/WAN networks
  • Knowledge of system security techniques
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to mentor more junior members
  • Strong team mindset
  • 10+ years of progressive technical (hands-on) experience related to System administration, Information Assurance/Cyber Engineering requirements, determination, development, and implementation
  • Bachelor's Degree or better in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related technical field preferred or equivalent experience
  • Experience with security features and/or vulnerability of various operating systems as defined by NIST, DISA (STIGs), and USCYBERCOM. Experience with network and system security administration, including operating system security configuration and account management best practices for Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, RedHat), Window Server, Windows clients, Microsoft Exchange, and CISCO systems
  • Experience with performing patch updates and vulnerability remediation
  • Hands on experience with configuring and maintaining networking devices (firewalls, switches, routers, TACLANES, NSA Type I encryption, etc.)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Current U.S. Government Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility or willingness to be submitted for clearance
  • DoDI 8570.01-M IAT/IAM Level-II Compliant Certification (such as Security+ or CISSP) a plus
  • Experience working U.S. Government contract proposals as an Information Assurance/Information Security Engineering subject matter expert a plus
  • Security-related Network (e.g., Cisco) and Operating Systems (e.g., Linux, Windows) certification or training
  • Self-starter requiring limited direction and supervision
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous customer requests in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Willing to travel occasionally to other office locations
