About the Organization American Nutrition Inc is a manufacturer of 3 product lines of pet food - dry kibble, baked treats and canned wet. Based out of Ogden, Utah American Nutrition has 4 plants across the US. Ogden, Utah is 30 minutes north of Salt Lake City. The area is in the heart of snow skiing, hiking and other outdoor recreational activity while being near a major city.

Description

Job Description: The Quality Assurance Tech performs a limited number of tests on products to determine that they are in conformance with formula specifications and requirements (e.g. texture, moisture, fat, etc.). The QA Tech will use a variety of testing instruments, test equipment and computer programs. Responsible for logging in samples, sample preparation and shipment of finished product samples to outside labs for testing. May maintain paperwork, charts, graphs and statistical records for causes of defects and makes recommendations for process controls.

 
Position Requirements

Essential Tasks:

  • Set up products and equipment for testing in proper sequence.
  • Log samples into data base.
  • Prepare and ship samples to outside lab for testing.
  • Conduct tests for stated criteria.
  • Note deviations in performance to test results.
  • Assist QA Manager and work closely with production operators on the manufacturing floor.
  • Assist in the inspection of outgoing finished products as required.
  • Assist in changeovers and sanitation efforts.
  • Maintain and implement programs to improve quality.
  • Assist in the investigation of customer complaints as needed.
  • Manage and resolve non-conformance issues.
  • Assist in implementing GMP and Food Safety and Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Programs.
  • Responsible for weekly environmental and ATP swabbing and delivery to Wasatch Labs.
  • Assist in writing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain hot room samples on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for daily calibration of thermometers and other lab equipment.
  • Collection and interpretation of data.
  • Learn and maintain standards, critical values and testing for moisture, protein, fat etc.
  • Demonstrate good computer input and retrieval skills.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills and Requirements:

  • GED or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years prior experience in quality assurance or quality control or food science required.
  • SQF training a plus; knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP, Microsoft Office, Better Process training.
  • Experience in the food industry and dry feeds or cereal experience preferred.

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to work in a schedule-driven shift environment with a customer service orientation to support plant operations. Overtime may be necessary as workloads dictate
  • Pre-employment drug screen and background testing required. Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices, including appropriate safety equipment apply. Job will generally be performed in a manufacturing environment.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit for prolonged periods of time, climb stairs, climb ladders and walk plant floors that could exceed one mile of travel per day.
  • The employee must have a full range of body movements including use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, computer equipment and peripherals; and bending, reaching, and crouching.
  • Must have command of all five senses, sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These vision requirements in each area must be sufficient to shift in focus from computer screens to close forms.
  • Strength: Must have the ability to lift 20 pounds with regularity.
  • Must be able to understand and follow work instructions in English.
