Public Programs Presenter 

Description

Woodland Park Zoo is seeking dynamic individuals to support an array of summer programs both on and off zoo grounds. Roles may include facilitating nature-based play with families at our early childhood indoor play space known as Zoomazium, inspiring zoo guests to take every day conservation actions through our on-grounds public programs, and assisting staff presenters with animal programs out in the community. Work schedule is Thursday through Monday.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for implementation and presentation of programs, experiences, and activities that support the Zoo’s business and mission. Uphold a commitment to the mission of the zoo and the organization’s Core Values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate and present engaging programs and experiences to audiences of all ages on and off zoo grounds
  • Provide feedback on curriculum, program and activities
  • Support program measurement by collecting data through varied methods including surveys and observations
  • Assist with collection of statistics; organize statistics and prepare data for reports
  • Provide crowd control, group management and basic customer service
  • Stock, clean and organize props and materials for programs
  • Organize rooms, props and materials for programs
  • Assist with training, programs and activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • 1+ years of combined education and experience in early childhood, natural science or environmental education
  • Experience presenting thematically based interpretive programs or classes to audiences of all age levels
  • Customer Service experience
  • Ability to present creative, mission-driven programming
  • Must possess general knowledge of zoology, ecology and conservation
  • Ability to work a non-standard/flexible schedule, which may include weekends, evenings and holidays
  • Ability to handle education program animals and to become a WPZ-certified animal presenter (requirement in specific positions)

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member, and independently with little supervision
  • Flexibility in dealing with program delivery and changes in deadlines and operation protocol

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to move up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to perform essential functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
