Description

Koniag Inc. is hiring a temporary heavy equipment operator to work on various remote construction projects on Kodiak Island. This position is a seasonal/temporary position for summer 2019. This position is a non-exempt, temporary position, and provides safe operation of various heavy equipment. This job will provide equipment operation on a variety of projects, including the Koniag Shareholder cabin repairs and construction of the Portage Trail project. This position will work under the supervision of the Lands and Natural Resources Manager or Project Manager.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.)

  • Operate heavy equipment in compliance with safety policies and procedures
  • Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers
  • Ensure company equipment and material is maintained, kept cleaned, and stored in a safe manner
  • General equipment maintenance
  • Removal of debris and brush from project sites.
  • Travel to land holdings by small boat, airplane and all-terrain vehicles.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Must have the ability to work in a positive manner with others.
  • Must possess a proficient ability in the safe handling and use all power & hand tools, measuring tools and other equipment associated with the trade.
  • Must have a demonstrated knowledge and record of safe operation and use of heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to physically move weight-bearing materials and equipment on even or uneven terrain.
  • Must have good eye, hand & sight coordination and physical fitness.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and follow written & verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to travel to and from the work site.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as needed to get the job done on time

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be minimum 18 years of age
  • Must have a valid unrestricted drivers license (CDL preferred)
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year experience working in a commercial construction environment, home construction or combination thereof or equivalent experience.

Work Environment:

The work environment will have varied weather temperatures and conditions. Work will be performed mostly outdoors. Position requires incumbent to be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time, and uphold good vision and hearing. Noise level is moderate to high.

Office Location and Travel:

The incumbent would report to the City of Kodiak. Koniag will provide travel from Kodiak to Camp Island or other remote work sites. While at a remote work site, lodging and food are provided by Koniag.
