About the Organization  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Site coordination with construction managers, site foremen, and ATC project management and engineers to ensure QA/QC related to site work and construction of various project types in the industrial, commercial, public works, and residential construction industry.
  • Perform field and/or laboratory services as directed by the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Manager and Senior Engineer
  • Field work to include observation, testing and/or inspection of site and construction materials, including soils, aggregates, reinforcement and structural steel, concrete, masonry, wood framing, and asphalt
  • Laboratory work to include soil proctor, soil moisture and plasticity, aggregate and sieve analysis, concrete compressive strength, and other standard lab tests
  • Assist technicians or professional staff on tasks, and assist other departments as necessary
  • Travel to various construction sites primarily throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana
  • Accurately record test results and daily field observations, and compose reports summarizing site and testing activities using available software and reporting programs (Metafield, Word, Excel)
  • Transport equipment, test specimens and/or documents to field personnel, laboratory, clients or other offices, and provide physical assistance in equipment set-up
  • Clean equipment, vehicles and work areas, and maintain the shop and laboratory environment
  • Communicate effectively with ATC managers, engineering staff, and contractors
  • Perform all job functions within ATC safety & health policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as requested/required.
Position Requirements

Basic qualifications:

  • Preferred - Actively enrolled in an engineering or construction related degree program, or in pursuit of engineering or construction experience
  • Available during the summer semester (May-August)
  • Experience with construction and its various materials including soil, concrete, steel, masonry, etc. is preferred, but not required
  • Valid Driver's license with good driving record required
  • Ability to accurately follow verbal and written instructions
  • Fluency in typing and use of electronic programs by computer and mobile device.
  • Reasoning, critical thinking, mathematical (simple calculations) and language skills (read, write and speak acceptable business English)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Physical strength, stamina and dexterity to lift and move 70 lbs, stop, bend, and stand throughout the course of up to a 12-hour work day in varying weather conditions in varying terrain
  • Ability to travel as necessary for job related duties and stay overnight out of town if required
