Position Requirements

Position Purpose/Summary:

Ensures compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements pertaining to EHS Compliance, as well as responsibility for all GPN EHS Systems.

Knowledge-Skills-Abilities (minimum)

Education:

  • Degree in Occupational H&S, Environmental Sciences or equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Preferred Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CHI), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

Experience (years and topics):

  • Experience: 2-3 years of industrial experience in a manufacturing environment, with direct tactical responsibilities, for the EHS Compliance function.

Technology/Software (years):

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Verifiable experience with Environmental, Health, and Safety Management Systems

Communications:

  • Written & Oral:
    • Is able to write and speak clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles; can get messages across with the desired effect.
  • Presentations:
    • Is effective in a variety of formal presentation settings; one-on-one, small and large groups, with peers, and bosses

Physical Capabilities

Strength (lifting, dexterity, repetitive motion):

  • Lift up to 30 lbs. on an occasional basis floor to waist
  • Carry up to 30 lbs. on an occasional basis up to 25 feet.

Movement (standing, stopping, sitting, crouching, crawling):

  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time
  • Occasional bending, crouching and crawling

Hearing:

  • Must be able to hear and understand work direction in a loud, distracting environment

Vision:

  • Must be able to judge distance, identify details, and view computer screen regularly

MISCELLANEOUS

Travel:

  • frequent travel between local sites (less than a mile distance)
  • Occasional Travel to vendor locations

  • Must have reliable transportation to travel on demand

Position Responsibilities-Tasks-Deliverables

All duties as assigned and the following specific activities.

  • Responsible for site compliance at ABF, ABF Labs and supporting warehouses
  • Responsible for EHS Systems integration across all ABF sites with responsibility for functionality and performance.
  • Maintains central files for all Compliance reporting at all Sites
  • Applies efforts to fully integrate EHS into the business processes and ensure monthly reports, statistics, and KPI’s are reported on-time to VP of Operations
  • Provides topic leadership and support to the Sites in the development and implementation of the Corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety Management System, and ensures understanding and measurable compliance at all ABF sites.
  • Develops and supports carbon emission and sustainability efforts for the ABF network of sites. Closely works with suppliers requiring this data on a monthly basis.
  • Provides training and technical consulting to ensure active and compliant management of EHS affairs at each Site
  • Troubleshoots/diagnoses EHS problems/hazards and implements solutions that are viable taking into account timing, expense, report ability, and volume of workers.
  • Is the main contact for any Regulatory inspections associated with EHS compliance.
  • Maintains current knowledge of existing and emerging EHS laws and regulations from all possible origination points. Advises appropriate management of changes or diligence needed to be in compliance.
  • Maintain professional certifications and training requirements needed for the position.
