Share Email Opening Title Paper Conservation Intern, Margaret Herrick Library - Summer 2019  Description Summary: The Margaret Herrick Library is the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ world-renowned, non-circulating reference and research collection devoted to the history and development of the motion picture as an art form and an industry. Established in 1928, the library is open to the public and used year-round by students, scholars, historians, and industry professionals. The library has extensive and comprehensive research collections on the subject of motion pictures including posters, production and costume drawings, books, periodicals, screenplays, photographs, manuscripts and ephemera as well as other special collections relating to prominent industry individuals, studios and organizations. Responsibilities: Assist with conservation treatment of library materials, including manuscripts, books, and other graphic materials on paper. Assist with environmental monitoring. Assist with rehousing of artifacts. Develop skills in treatment, decision-making, prepare condition and treatment reports with appropriate photo documentation, and gain additional experience in conservation treatments. Special interests or specific goals of the intern are encouraged as part of the learning experience.   Position Requirements Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate residing in or attending school in Los Angeles County, preferably in pursuit of a degree in Art Conservation, Museum Studies, Art History, Art Studio, Archaeology, or related field. Previous museum object handling and/or conservation experience preferred. Must be able to sit and stand for periods in excess of 2 hours and able to lift up to 25 lbs.
