Summary:

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world’s premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located on Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and moviemaking.

The Registration and Collections Management Intern will provide support for registration and collections management projects for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures collection. The Academy Museum’s collection consists of film-related objects including props, film technology, costumes, and makeup and hair-related objects. You will be introduced to areas of registration and collections management including processing new acquisitions, cataloging and long-term collection storage solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with processing permanent collection materials including props, costumes, and film technology, which may include physical numbering of objects, object photography, cataloging, and taking measurements.
  • Assist with collection storage, such as assisting with fabrication of basic storage supports and/or moving objects within storage.
  • Assist with ensuring collection and exhibition files are updated and maintained.
 
Position Requirements
  • Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate residing in or attending school in Los Angeles County, preferably in pursuit of a degree in Museum Studies, Art History, Art Studio, Archaeology, or related field.
  • Previous museum object handling experience and sewing skills preferred.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for periods in excess of 2 hours, as well as lift up to 25 lbs.
