Special Note: The infrastructure manager provides leadership on the future direction of systems, providing insight on the impact and benefit of such systems by working with the teams to meet performance and supportability goals. Manage and direct infrastructure team and helpdesk staff.

Position Summary: The infrastructure manager reports to and works directly with the director of administration & infrastructure and serves as designee in absence of department director. Primary responsibility is for all hardware and software 'capital assets' from procurement to disposal and the management of all operational aspects of the productions systems in the AFT enterprise. They have direct responsibility for the AFT data center plus remote disaster recovery sites and oversees the operation, support and service of these areas including, but not limited to network communications, operations and production systems maintenance, configuration, disaster recovery, license support agreements and system monitoring and reporting. The operating systems are MS Server, Windows 7 & 10 (desktops) and software to include Microsoft SQL Server, Exchange, VMWare, SharePoint, Citrix and MS Office 2010/365.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee ServiceDesk analysts and temps; coordinate and implement departmental goals and objectives designed to provide a single point of contact for first and second level problem reporting, incident reporting, and hardware and software support.
  • Direct special projects and coordinate plans and activities of the department and affiliates in acquisition of hardware and software.
  • Keep abreast of the latest technologies to effectively implement strategies to increase efficiency, maintain quality of service and ensure continuous improvement and operational benefit through effective capacity planning.
  • Safeguard the computers and network from any threats throughout infrastructure (viruses, Malware, and Spam or other intrusions to the system).
  • Work closely with Dept managers to ensure that infrastructure plans are consistent with the department protocols, policies and goals.
  • Develop and review technical service level standards for equipment; Develop and revise appropriate standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in vendor assessments of advanced technology techniques and processes including beta and field test participation and provide performance reports on vendor proposals and capabilities.
  • Establish operation level agreements and objectives and maintain existing service level agreements for the organization as well as for applications or service.
  • Ensure IT governance, audit and compliance requirements are met.
  • Continuously improve, document, implement and manage standardized policies and procedures for areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain Infrastructure equipment inventory and manage hardware life-cycles.
  • Be accountable for measuring and optimizing application and infrastructure performance, and to initiate and lead recovery actions in the event of a system failure.
  • Forecasts demand for storage, computing and network capacity and takes appropriate action before capacity limits are reached.
  • Provide leadership, direction and guidance; create and maintain a productive work environment and ensures staff have the appropriate skills and tools to perform their jobs.
  • Implement Virus, OS and Application patches as per industry Best Practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Report on the status of remediation work related to the implementation, change, retirement or upgrade of system controls and processes.

 
Position Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business management or a related field is required; however, an MS in computer science or an MBA is highly desirable.
  • 8+ years of experience in IT with 4 years in a similar (hands-on) role.
  • Programming experience is required as is experience in system administration, relational technology, and telecommunications transaction processing and project management.
  • Proficient understanding of all aspects of network architecture.
  • Proficient understanding of penetration testing, IP port scans, firewall, proxy and IDS configurations and management, AD policy management, access controls, wireless security, VPN and encryption.
  • Knowledge of a variety of hardware and software, particularly Microsoft software, VMware, Exchange and Citrix is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skill set, including the ability to confidently present to all levels of management.
  • Proficient understanding of IP networking: Cisco, TCP/IP, Window Servers, network security, cloud technologies, VOIP, wireless and VPN.
  • Proficiency in understanding of data center/server room build out experience (power, network, racking, cooling, communication lines, etc.).
  • Proficient understanding in VMware ESX, SAN, monitoring tools, and operating systems (strong understanding of Windows Server).
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and supervise both senior and junior members of a team.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team.
  • Detailed oriented, analytical mindset, highly effective at decision making, result-driven, process oriented, and always serving as an advocate for our end users.
  • The successful candidate must be a proactive strategic thinker whose skills contribute to the efficient, systematic and cost-effective operation of AFT’s current and future network goals.
  • Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing is a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
  • Work experience in a union environment and/or non-profit organizations desirable.
