Position Requirements

Ideal candidate is enthusiastic, energetic, organized, and flexible; possesses excellent communication skills; and a strong ability to coordinate a variety of diverse tasks and work successfully with Team Members. Strong presentation, program planning, computer skills, research, and problem solving skills; ability to prioritize, balance, and meet multiple goals/projects simultaneously; enjoys working in a flexible, often fast-paced, team-oriented environment; able to be fiscally responsible with budgets; and able to plan for and meet deadlines essential. Candidate must have full availability from June through the first week in August Previous experience in formal and informal education settings, preferably, classrooms, science museums, zoos, and summer camps. College degree in science, education, or related field preferred. Experience with LEGO Robotics Programming, Microsoft Kodu and/or Scratch Software is a plus.


OBJECTIVE: Responsible for participating as a Team Member in the preparation and facilitation of developmentally-appropriate science summer camp programs for children in grades K-12 in week-long sessions. Guide participants' individual discovery of program topics and be responsible for care of groups of children. Support COSI's mission by maintaining a high level of quality in content and delivery of Camp COSI Programs. Support the training, documentation, evaluation, budgeting, materials inventory and procurement for these programs.


  1. In conjunction with camp management, maintain a vision for Camp COSI to confirm that it meets COSI's mission and values.
  2. Implement each program in a developmentally appropriate manner focused on individual discovery and guaranteed fun, memorable, and educational experience for each camper.
  3. Model for and coach paid and Volunteer Team Members to help with their growth.
  4. Communicate with all internal teams to ensure smooth and effective operation of camp programs.
  5. Work with the camp management to determine the needs and audiences for future programming and to ensure goals and objectives are being met by current programming.
  6. In coordination with the camp management, participate in ongoing design, development, and review Camp COSI.
  7. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
  8. Collaborate with team to adapt the presentation strategy for implementation of each day's program according to the ages and interests of the participants involved, while following the time line of activities for the day.
  9. Responsible for the safety and welfare of all participants during the program hours in COSI and on field trips.
  10. Supervise the activities and conduct of assigned Workshops Volunteers to assure success in the program and in the Youth Volunteer program. Assist with the written evaluation of Volunteers.
  11. Set-up and clean up all materials, equipment, supplies, decorations, etc. related to each program.
  12. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI paid and Volunteer Team Members and Guests.
  13. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Camp Programs.
