About the Organization The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research, and advocacy. Fenway Health was founded in 1971 and has grown from a less than 10 person operation in the basement of a building near the Boston Fens to one of the largest LGBT-focused organizations in the world. It consists of three main centers:

• Fenway Community Health Center, our clinical arm, which is a federally qualified health center that operates three clinic sites (Fenway:1340, Fenway:South End, and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center) in the Boston area and provides over 30,000 patients with primary and specialty medical care, behavioral health care, optometry care, and dental care;

• The Fenway Institute, our research/training/education/policy development arm, which houses numerous research initiatives as well as the National LGBT Education Project, the LGBT Aging Project, the National Center for Innovation in HIV Care, and the Center for Population Research in LGBT Health; and

• AIDS Action, our HIV/AIDS service organization, which provides nonclinical services (case management, housing and legal assistance, outreach, peer support) to people living with HIV/AIDS and operates numerous programs focusing on HIV/STD prevention/testing/treatment, including the Access (drug user health program), TransCEND (transgender peer support and risk reduction program), and Youth on Fire (drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth) programs.

Description

Function:
The CFO is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of Fenway Health in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and other regulatory and advisory organizations. The CFO develops strategic fiscal direction for the short and long term needs of the organization. The CFO oversees daily finance department functions, ensures comprehensive reports and updates and ensures compliance with audit requirements. The CFO reports to the CEO of Fenway Health.

Representative Duties:

  1. Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's fiscal function and performance.
  2. Participate in the development of the Fenway Health's plans and programs as a strategic partner.
  3. Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action.
  4. Enhance credibility for the finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the CEO, the Board and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities.
  5. Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness.
  6. Enhance credibility throughout the organization and with the Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
  7. Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline.
  8. Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets.
  9. Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization; i.e., evaluation of potential alliances acquisitions and/or mergers and pension funds and investments.
  10. Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
  11. Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
  12. Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the corporation may enter.
  13. Evaluate the finance division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as provide individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities (where possible) of individuals.
  14. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, requirements of licensors, funders, accreditors, auditors and ensure best practice for compliance within the Finance department.

    • Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
    • Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities
    • Serves on agency committees and in professional organizations when requested

Education:

  • MBA degree

Experience/Other Requirements:

  • 7 to 10 years’ experience with at least 5 years in healthcare and/or nonprofit organizations
  • CPA a plus
