JOB SUMMARY:

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) shall be responsible for coordinating supplier qualification and verifying quality standards for multiple Astronics locations, in accordance with corporate and divisional requirements. The SQE shall be responsible for performing regular supplier audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, as well as actively participating in strategic supplier development based on business and quality control plans. The SQE shall serve as a liaison for suppliers, suggest structural quality system and process improvements, and collaborate with other engineers in a team environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads audits to qualify or disqualify suppliers according to organization standards
  • Interact regularly with Quality, Procurement, Engineering, and Manufacturing personnel to ensure understanding of product requirements and standards
  • Assist in the development and implementation of supplier management programs
  • Monitor Supplier Performance Score Cards at multiple Astronics LSI locations
  • Assist in the development and implementation of systems, policies, and procedures for selecting and qualifying new suppliers, as well as monitoring capabilities and performance of existing Suppliers
  • Share recommendations and observations for improvement for all internal manufacturing processes that could potentially be a candidate to be outsourced
  • Analyze results from incident investigations and collaborate to determine failure modes, root causes, corrective actions
  • May assist in verifying product conformity with the use of mechanical and other optical or electronic measurement devices such as CMM calipers etc.
  • Support and participate in regular Supplier Performance Review meetings at multiple Astronics LSI locations
  • Consolidated analysis and reporting
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and Quality personnel at multiple Astronics LSI locations to quarantine or disposition nonconforming products

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Advanced knowledge or experience conducting Product/Process failure investigations using well defined Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) tools
  • Plan and manage Quality Management Systems (QMS) audits using the requirements of AS 9100, as well as audits of Supplier Processes including PCB manufacturing, PCB assembly and test, wire harness assembly and test, machining of metal and plastic, surface treatments, and plastic injection molding
  • Excellent communication skills both written and orally, English being a requirement
  • Advance knowledge and experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (Aptean Intuitive preferred) to analyze data
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Well organized, proactive and ability to work on several projects at the same time under limited supervision
  • Ability to train and mentor others
  • Integrity: keep promises, is dependable and accurate and is committed to doing only that which is honest, fair, legal and morally right.
  • ASQ CSQP or APICS CSCP certification is a plus
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry requirements such as Counterfeit Parts Prevention, Export Control Procedures, Conflict Minerals Reporting, FOD and ESD controls, etc.
  • Due to federal contract obligations, must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, or Science. Equivalent experience when coupled with desired Quality Science skill will be considered
  • 5+ years in a quality control/ assurance role in an aerospace manufacturing setting preferred

No direct reports

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to travel to Supplier sites or other Astronics LSI locations up to 50% of the time
