Under the direction of the Vice President of Philanthropy the Senior Major Gift Officer will collaborate with the Resource Development team to ensure funding priorities and implement fundraising programs needed to sustain robust major gift support from the community.

The Senior Major Gifts Officer will play a central role in working with major gifts staff, campaign leadership and organization colleagues to build and complete a successful campaign by coordinating, facilitating, and shaping the implementation of the campaign strategy and annual giving plans. The Senior Major Gifts Officer role is an integral position at Opportunity Village serving as the coordinator of Capital Campaign.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. In collaboration with the Major Gifts team, raise the funds for the comprehensive campaign.
  2. Planning the solicitation of each major donor prospects (individual, foundation and corporation) including appropriate solicitors, cultivation, request amounts, stewardship and research.
  3. Support the comprehensive fundraising campaigns to include; annual giving, endowments, and the capital campaign.
  4. Lead meetings for the Gift team members, ensuring agenda is followed and goals are met.
  5. Develop and utilize major donor and prospect cultivation strategies.
  6. Use Donor Perfect software to track, solicit and report on all prospects.
  7. Work closely with the marketing team to support the creation and maintenance of communication platforms, presentations, committee and donor presentations, and reports.
  8. Support coordination of the workflow among departmental functions to ensure efficient and timely implementation of fundraising and stewardship tasks to ensure optimal donor relationships.
  9. Plan and implement cultivation and stewardship strategies to motivate donors.
  10. Solicit contributions of $25,000 or more.
  11. Assist with communication for the Capital Campaign Team with other departments, responding to inquiries regarding development operations and activities
  12. Support preparation of accurate, accessible and attractive quarterly reports and campaign progress reports for senior managers and board committees.
  13. Adhere to the budget.
  14. Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:
    • Initiate contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors
    • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers
    • Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure
    • Make solicitations when appropriate
    • Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work within electronic environment for solicitation and gift tracking.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment and to manage simultaneously a variety of projects.
  • Ability to be aware of workflow and assist where needed - balanced with the capacity to keep out of the way to permit people to manage their own work.
  • Knowledgeable about the role of technology in donor communications and fundraising.
  • Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Fundraising, Nonprofit Administration, Business or related field or equivalent.
  • Required: Minimum of seven years' experience as a development professional, including senior responsibilities and direct experience in a capital campaign.
  • Required: Experience working with high-level decision makers, trustees, and other stakeholders.
  • Required: Demonstrated experience the phases of capital campaign fundraising: leadership, major, and community gift phases.
  • Required Knowledge of local philanthropic community.
  • Preferred: Ten years of successful experience in major or planned gift fundraising with demonstrated results in personally identifying, asking for, and securing major gifts.Preferred: Experience with Donor Perfect of other donor database software.
  • Preferred: Experience working with individuals with disabilities
