Field Service Electrician

ORION DRILLING COMPANY is located in Corpus Christi, Texas. We are a full service drilling company with the tools necessary to help you hit TD. Our Manufacturing and Fabrication Facility is equipped to construct our rigs with API certified substructures, masts, and crowns. Every rig in the ORION fleet is equipped with a top drive, automatic catwalk, and EDS controls. Our Assembly and Integration Facility is a fully concreted eight-acre assembly yard with enough room to rig up 4 drilling rigs at the same time. The yard also contains our Corporate Headquarters, Mechanics & Maintenance Shop, and an advanced inventory system that tracks, receives, and ships rig components, supplies and spare parts.

The Field Service Electrician installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the duties listed under the following “Responsibilities” section. This position works an average of 65 hours per week on an 8/3 day rotation. Candidates must be willing to travel at least 50% of the time.

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager

    Position Requirements


    • Meters electrical devices in operation and monitors readings.

    • Diagnose malfunctions and remove defective parts.

    • Inspects electrical components.

    • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.

    • Installs and maintains electrical circuits and wiring.

    • Tracks maintenance performed.

    • Sets up and operates test measurements and diagnostic equipment.

    • Other tasks may be assigned as needed.


    Education and Training: One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to five years related oilfield experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Technical Requirements: Definitive understanding of electronic and electrical components and theory, SCR, VFD and Canrig Top Drives.

    -The noise level varies depending on location.
