Position Summary

Under limited supervision, perform supervisory duties over skilled Power System Electricians in the operation, maintenance, testing, repair, and installation of, the Power Delivery System transmission and distribution stations. Provide direction to crews on work order execution plans, and strategically structuring work activities within their work unit to optimize safety, productivity, and cost efficiency. Ensure the proper knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes, tools, and equipment are in place to accomplish the objective

Job Description

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Plans, assigns, and evaluates the work of staff members; provides technical expertise to staff, contractors, vendors, and co-workers; establishes, measures, and enforces work goals, safety standards, work orders, and objectives; oversees daily operations of the Transmission, Distribution stations and Communications systems.

Oversee completion of safety action items assuring safety issues are identified and resolved; develops implementation solutions for areas needing continuation improvement plans; develop District wide training plans to improve safety culture; perform safety audits and inspections in the field.

Reviews, develops, and/or modifies work plans, methods, and procedures; determines work priorities and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage; provides work instruction, assists employees with difficult and unusual assignment; assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness, and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion.

Develops recommendations for the establishment and implementation of a scheduled maintenance program for specialized equipment; implements safety standards and develops procedures to ensure compliance; maintains records and prepares monthly activity reports; ensures quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of unit activities and safety measures.

Assists with developing the budget by gathering, compiling, and coordinating information; monitors, verifies, tracks, and documents expenditures or revenues; reviews budget documents and records for consistency and creates and prepares various reports; recommends resources and equipment needs; monitors and tracks resources for operation; creates forms and procedures/practices for document preparation to support the budgetary responsibility.

Act as subject matter expert to increase competency of all parties involved while maintaining relationships critical to successful partnerships. Performs related duties as required or assigned, including appropriate delegation of duties.

  • Alerting supervisors and coworkers to unsafe or hazardous working conditions;
  • Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor; and
  • Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance.

Accept responsibility for safety of all team members and model safe behaviors by:

  • Clearly defining and completing performance-focused safety activities required of you and your team.
  • Supporting work stoppages by employees when they identify unsafe/hazardous working conditions.
  • Acknowledging compliant safety behaviors and good safety performance from members of your team(s).

 
Position Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred, AND five (5) years’ of experience in Substation maintenance or design;

Or

Seven (7) years’ of experience in supervising crews performing substation maintenance and construction within the transmission and distribution repair and maintenance field;

Or

Completion of a Journeyman substation program or equivalent

Thorough knowledge of reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and contract documents.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission standards and regulations; applicable PRC, CIP, standards; knowledge of electrical and telecommunication engineering topics including power transmission and distribution, and communication systems; concepts, principles, theories, and methods surrounding electrical wiring and electronics design, installation, and maintenance within industry standards and best practices.

Skill in – problem solving; supervision of a diverse workforce; report creation and submittal; independently adapting, interpreting and applying written guidelines, precedents, and standardized work practices to a variety of unprecedented and problematic situations; setting general goals and priorities for own work, carrying out several assignments simultaneously, and completing assigned work on time; written and oral interpersonal communication; workflow and time management; utilizing MS office products; specialized software, tools, and applications.

Special Requirements

A valid State driver’s license may be required. Journeyman Electrician Certificate may be required.

Physical Requirements

Majority of work is performed in a standard office setting, with some field work that may require operation of a vehicle.
