The Instructional Designer/Trainer is responsible for assisting with the development of educational training modules, job aids, facilitator guides, and process flow maps. This role works with Business Leaders and Subject Matter Experts to create an engaging and effective training program for required topics, business process flows, and compliance education to name a few. This person designs and implements learning requirements and opportunities to achieve the goals of the business unit. They will effectively manage and/or facilitate internal learning opportunities. This role will create learning courses and materials using instructional design methodology and will review learning programs to ensure all materials are current, accurate, and relevant. The Instructional Designer/Trainer will maintain a working knowledge of operational policies and procedures and serve as a resource for performance support and learning projects.

Instructional Designer (75%)

  • Assesses plans, designs, develops, and implements professional development training curriculum and materials for end-users.
  • Applies advanced project management skills and methodologies to the instructional design process, including assessment, job analysis, course design and development.
  • Designs training and performance support tools for delivery across multiple channels of the business.
  • Executes the training design and floor ready process to ensure training (content, delivery, and measurements) is accurate and relevant to the learner.
  • Creates high quality, visually engaging, and easy to understand training materials.
  • Generates custom graphic design products to grasp learner's attention quickly and for periods of time.
  • Utilizes the A.D.D.I.E. instructional design process, or similar processes, to create new instructor led, virtual, or web based training curriculum.
  • Works with line of business subject matter experts in the development of contextually-rich, engaging, and objective-driven courses and learning experiences that focus on applicable work place skills.
  • Designs content for delivery in online and live environments and completes instructional design documentation to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Builds course content/components into the learning management system.
  • Reviews existing courses for quality, currency, and consistency and works with line of business leaders to enhance curriculum design as needed.
  • Works with line of business leaders to document and create written procedures.

Trainer (25%)

  • Delivers, and executes related training programs.
  • Conducts classes in a professional and effective manner that benefits the learner and the organization.
  • Creates and updates departmental documents including forms, guides, job aids, training policies, and guidelines.
  • Stays current with training and learning trends and best practices.
  • Assists with staff training for operational policy and procedure changes, the creation of operational training manuals, job aids, and forms.
  • Handles and prioritizes multiple duties/projects to meet deadlines.

This position will perform other duties as assigned based on the needs of the department.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of three years experience in instructional design with experience in designing technical manuals, simulations, and generative learning experiences.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Project, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Captivate 9.0 preferred.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, constructivism, facilitation, and learner-centered activities.
  • Ability to provide instructional design consulting services to subject matter experts.
  • Thorough knowledge of adult learning theories.
  • Proficiency in technical, business, and/or procedure writing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively relay complex financial and compliance rules in an easy to understand and memorable format.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and relationship building are a must to work with leaders of various departments, subject matter experts, and company leaders to create learning modules, facilitation guides, and all learning and development collateral.
  • Experienced in creation of Learning Plans and LMS Administration.
  • Ability to be creative, flexible, and innovative in course design.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, adhere to budgets, and meet multiple project deadlines simultaneously.
  • Exceptionally strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop content which influences, persuades, and directs learning so employees can be successful in their work environment.
  • Research skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, questioning and feedback skills.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of training and development experience or any combination of education and experience that would provide an equivalent background, specifically in an Instructional Design role.
