STR has approximately 250 employees at sites in Woburn, MA, Dayton, OH, and Arlington, VA. We are a nationally recognized leader in research areas including data analytics, sensors and signal processing, electronic warfare, cyber, video and image understanding, command and control, and precision navigation. STR performs advanced research and development using machine learning, program analysis, optimization, artificial intelligence, and formal methods for the cybersecurity and resiliency of cyber-physical systems. Targeting the hardest security challenges facing our national defense, STR is developing cutting-edge capabilities in cyber-physical systems modeling, vulnerability analysis, and attack detection and remediation.

We seek hardware, software, and firmware reverse engineers who have a passion for research and analysis of vulnerabilities in cyber physical systems. We are growing rapidly and hiring at all levels – from junior software developers and researchers who want to learn and grow their reverse engineering skills to senior, experienced reverse engineers who are looking for a challenge (we have plenty of them!).

Job Description:

  • Work in small research teams to reverse engineer software
  • Perform vulnerability research and exploit development & mitigation on a variety of challenging targets ranging from Windows/Linux binaries to embedded firmware on non-traditional information systems
  • Work in small research teams to develop innovative cybersecurity solutions
  • Document, demonstrate, and present research

Position Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Cybersecurity or related field
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance (US Citizen)

Desired Qualifications (one or more of these areas):

  • Experience performing static/dynamic/symbolic program analysis
  • Reverse engineering software using tools such as IDA, Binary Ninja, or Ghidra
  • Assembly Languages (x86, ARM, etc.)
  • Operating system internals including memory/process/thread management
  • Computer architectures
  • Penetration testing or system hacking
  • Vulnerability research and analysis
  • Exploitation development
  • Implant or software patch development
  • Knowledge of anti-reverse engineering techniques
  • Protocol analysis
  • Knowledge of binary file structures and formats
  • Embedded systems or firmware analysis
  • JTAG debugging, firmware flashing or extraction
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C/C++, Python, etc.
