GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsible, supervisory and highly skilled technical and mechanical position involved in the Fleet Management program. Responsible for the coordination of all activities pertaining to the Fleet Management Vehicle facility, including the procurement of vehicles and equipment, management of contracts, supervision of staff and repairs to various types of vehicles.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervises and participates in the work of skilled and semi-skilled personnel engaged in maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, light-duty trucks, emergency equipment, turf equipment, generators, trailers, and road construction equipment. This involves instructing, assigning and reviewing work, planning, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, budget preparation, and monitoring, and allocating personnel.
  2. Develops and implements preventative maintenance programs for all fleet vehicles and equipment.
  3. Manages contracts for the Fleet Maintenance Program. Ensures quality assurance and performance measures are met. Makes recommendations for the need for contracted services.
  4. Confers with department heads regarding their maintenance needs and problems. Communicates the scope of work and the estimated timeline of services. Addresses all warranty issues, coordinates all vehicle safety recalls with the Department and manufacturer.
  5. Analyze data trends from department software systems to optimize efficiency and enhance customer service while controlling expenditures.
  6. Prepare detailed reports to analyze equipment and determine the most cost-effective equipment to purchase and implement 'best practices' for maintenance by providing in-depth cost analysis, assist in budget preparation for fleet maintenance.
  7. Maintains records and reports of work accomplished. Prepares and process reports on completed work. Invoices division for maintenance work performed.
  8. Operates and transports all vehicles and equipment as needed.
  9. In case of emergency or crisis situation (hurricane, flood, etc.) position is required to respond/perform recovery duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
  10. Employees hired on or after February 1, 2016, must be a tobacco-free person, both on and off the job, for at least one (1) year immediately preceding application and maintain same tobacco-free status throughout the term of employment.
  11. Maintains regular attendance.

Position Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of construction, assembly, adjustment and maintenance of a wide variety of auto, light truck, emergency vehicles, maintenance, and construction equipment.
• Knowledge of all types of mechanic's shop tools.
• Knowledge of Windows Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Skill in applying methods and techniques in the use of automotive or diesel repairs.
• Skill in the use of computers and computer software programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
• Ability to analyze dataset and develop a program or adjust programmed activities in response to data sets.
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Ability to drive various types of vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to operate a computer.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
• Five (5) years of mechanical experience in the automotive/truck repair field.
• Three (3) years supervisory experience.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:

• Valid Florida Class “A” Temporary Driving Permit within (60) days of employment and a driving record to the insurance provider.
• Valid Florida Class “A” Commercial Driver License within six (6) months of employment and a driving record acceptable to the insurance provider.
• Florida Department of Transportation Maintenance of Traffic-Intermediate Level Certification within one (1) year.
• ASE Master Certification or equivalent.
