Senior Director, Internal Learning

Reporting to Vice President of Program Delivery, the Sr. Director will lead capacity building of Program Delivery team to support improved instruction in partner sites. Capacity building will be through both virtual internal learning structures and field support. The Sr. Director will work closely with the Product Team as a key thought partner to develop internal learnings that build staff knowledge of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative and application of College and Career Readiness Standards and High-Quality Aligned Curriculum with partners. The goal of this work is to build the skills and competencies of NTC staff to support partner sites in closing the achievement gap for the most underserved students through providing equitable access and success with rigorous content. The Sr. Director will work closely with members of the product team to support the integration of rigorous standards with key aspects of whole child development to ensure every child can access and engage with high-level content. This role will also consult on product refinement. Working collaboratively and cross-functionally, the Sr. Director will support the assessment of NTC’s current products and services and make recommendations to ensure existing and new products and services are current, relevant, and aligned with our mission, vision, and core values.

NTC is seeking a dynamic Sr. Director who is committed to improving teacher effectiveness as a strategy for increasing student performance, and who brings a commitment to dismantling inequities in education as well as a significant ELA and math CCSS and instructional knowledge. The successful candidate has deep expertise in ELA content knowledge and culturally relevant pedagogy and in assessing instructional practice and analyzing student work. The Sr. Director will have deep expertise in developing content based on best practices in adult learning, including a focus on application to influence teacher development and improved student outcomes. Success will be defined as increased staff knowledge and application as well as improved high-quality programs for partners.


  • Build expertise of the Program Delivery staff in CCSS knowledge and application based in adult learning.

  • Work to ensure that our organizational focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is finely integrated into our internal learning scope and sequence

  • Remain abreast with current best practices in CCSS and 21st Century Learning implementation and instruction from around the country

  • Work closely across Program Delivery, Product Strategy, and Impact

  • Work with senior leadership to create an internal communication plan to keep key stakeholders involved

  • Work with product development team to inform the development of products that support the successful implementation of the Common Core and other college and career-ready standards

  • Observe and provide feedback to staff in-field coaching and facilitating professional learning

  • Be a thought partner to clients leads in planning client consultation and co-developing CCSS-aligned and equity related forums

  • Lead learning walks with staff and devises learning opportunities based on data collected

  • Lead the build out of a rubric aligned to the in-field coaching indicators

  • Lead the build out of a consultation continuum to support strategic consultations with partners

  • Support the development of National Program Leader Network (NPLN) content

  • Represent NTC at key meetings, convenings, and other events

  • Other duties as assigned

**This is a remote based role based anywhere in the US with 50%+ travel nationally.

Position Requirements


  • Deep knowledge of ELA and math Common Core State Standards and other national standards similar to Common Core and College and Career Readiness

  • Deep commitment to NTC’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative

  • Ability to coach adults and inspire others

  • Understands how CCSS and HQAC impact student learning in particular for historically underserved kids.

  • Minimum of 5 years of educational experience (classroom teaching, coaching, site or district level administration and/or program implementation) in a variety of settings or grades; instructional and school leadership experience preferred

  • 5 years program or project leadership and a track record of significant accomplishment, especially in complex or uncertain environments

  • Successful experience designing and delivering adult professional development

  • Outstanding leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills, with outstanding attention to detail

  • Ability to work with multiple internal stakeholders, across multiple time zones, in a primarily virtual work environment

  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment

  • Comfort with handling multiple projects simultaneously as well as working with rapidly shifting priorities and targets

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create trusting relationships

  • Passionate about accelerating the impact and efficacy of teachers, coaches, and school leaders, and improving the academic outcomes of all students

  • Commitment to self-reflection and on-going learning

  • Experience working in communities of color

  • High attention to detail, organization, and follow through

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google-Suite products

ADA Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Ability to travel nationally on a weekly basis

  • Work normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment

  • Limited physical effort required

  • Hearing, repetitive hand motions, sitting, talking, typing
