General Summary: The van helper assists the delivery driver with material delivered to job sites via pickup truck and or box van. Overall the position assists in preparing and loading material for deliveries, and assists with unloading and storing materials. While not on the road, the position will assist with building loads, loading and unloading of materials, and maintaining good housekeeping and security. The truck/van driver reports to the dispatcher at the particular yard they are assigned to. Duties and Responsibilities: Prepare and assemble materials for shipment. Load trucks when necessary in preparation of deliveries Hand unload materials and stage them at the job site in the most convenient fashion for the customer. Assist van driver delivering materials to customers as required and defined by the dispatcher. Load and handle material so as to minimize shrinkage Assist in picking orders and loading customers when necessary Make certain all material is properly and safely loaded regardless of who the loader was. Drive forklifts as duties require and in accordance with safety regulations and company procedures. Keep the yard clean and the merchandise orderly at all times. Use proper material handling techniques to reduce damage to goods. Other duties as assigned.   Position Requirements Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: High School GED or equivalent Knowledge of: Familiarity with a variety of building products Safety procedures while handling tools or equipment. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; write simple correspondence; effectively present information to others one-on-one. Ability to work in a team environment Ability to: Consistently display a friendly, can-do attitude! Must be able to effectively communicate where it be in person with a co-worker or customer or over the phone.
