Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision for clients and their siblings during Ronald McDonald Playroom visits
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding care needs of children
  • Monitor and ensure that parents/guardians sign children in and out of program, and be aware of parents whereabouts in the event that they are needed
  • Develop and maintain positive and open communication with staff and volunteers
  • Supervise volunteers as assigned
  • Regular maintenance of room and equipment (includes sterilization/cleaning of toys)
  • Often required to work flexible hours consistent with organizational needs including evenings and weekends
  • Follow Holland Bloorview's philosophy regarding client and family-centred practice
  • Remain current with standards as applicable
  • Promote and support the physical, psychosocial and spiritual well-being of clients and families
  • Support a safe and healthy work environment for staff, clients and families
  • Maintain current knowledge and training in Holland Bloorview's Emergency Action Plans and practices safe program implementation
  • Committed to patient safety as an essential component of practice
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and support the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for staff, clients and families
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Early Childhood Education or humanities equivalent preferred
  • Maintains current certification in CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Previous work with children with disabilities
  • Previous work in recreation program planning, implementation
  • Proven ability to be self-directed
  • Able to relate well to professionals, children, adolescents, family members and volunteers
  • Demonstrated initiative taking, creativity and a questioning attitude
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
